Byron Miller Question & Answer......
Who is Byron E. Miller?
I am the son of Johnny "Sonny" Miller and the late Hazel Miller, founder of the Miller Child Development Center.
A graduate of Sam Houston High School, I earned a B. A. degree in Business Administration from Morehouse
College.
Why are you running for City Council?
I believe that I can do die best job of creating true economic development in District 2, and that I have the vision
and the knowledge to do the things necessary for us to have a better quality of life here.
What do you see as the most important issues for the East Side area of District 2?
We must have real economic development that enhances our neighborhoods and creates jobs that pay our citizens
on the East Side wages with which they can support their families. We must also take care of the basics—streets,
sidewalks and curbs, good drainage, and proper fire, police, and EMS protection; I am also strongly committed
to working within the current City budget and not raising your taxes.
What are your plans for our older neighborhoods?"
Our older neighborhoods are an important key to the re-energizing and the re-development of the East Side. We
must not allow these beautiful, historic neighborhoods to fall into further decline. If I am elected, I will be working
to divert some of the hundreds of millions of dollars that the City invests in mutual funds, stocks, and bonds into
a loan fund to provide monies for homeowners to purchase, renovate, and live in homes in our older neighborhoods.
What are your plans for economic development?
My economic development plan, first of all, is to see that there is an East Side entity represented on the Economic
Development Foundation, which is instrumental in bringing most new companies to San Antonio. Then we must,
as a community, develop an economic development plan and follow through, using a combination of government
funds and incentives and private companies and entities. Small businesses will be an important cornerstone in my
economic development plan.
What do you bring to the City Council table that the other candidates do not?
I am the only business person in this race, so, along with common sense, I bring successful business experience,
the ability to sell the East Side to potential companies (that we choose to have here), superior negotiating skills,
the ability to work with people from every walk of life, vision, foresight, and planning. One of the most important
things I would accomplish, if elected, would be to develop, along with the community, a 5,10, and 20 year plan
of growth and development for the East Side. With term limitations, this is very necessary if we are to grow.
Otherwise, we have to start all over every two- four years.
For more information or to make a contribution to the candidate who can make a real and
lasting difference for the East Side, contact Byron E. Miller at 354-1849 or come by
208 S. New Braunfels, Suite 1, San Antonio, TX 78201.
