BARGAINS! BARGAINS! NOTHING BUT BARGAINS
AT CUERO’S FAVORITE STORE
OOOOOOOCXXXXX)OCXXXXX)OOCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCpaOOOOCXXXO^ ;
Only two more months till Christmas and we have a world of High Grade Merchandise to get rid of before that time. To add new zest to our cut price sale we have made
some Hg cuts in nearly every department of our store, cuts that are bound to appeal to prudent buyers. This week we add 1000 pairs of Ladies' Men's and *
Children's Sho£S to the list. We bought these from a manufacturer; they are his entire line of samples that were used the past, season and of course we bought ■
them right. We ask an inspection of the line by you and our word for it you will find what you want at less money than you ever bought before.

is not a new thing but one that
dates back twelve or fifteen years.
It was first begun on an extensive
fecale by the Southern,Pacific Rail-
road company and is yet one of
their most important factors of
traffic.
* The city of Cuero has also en-
gaged in it to a considerable ex-
tent for the purpose of improving
and beautifying her streets and
sidewalks, which were in former
years in very bad shape, but now
are as good as the best of any in
any of the towns in Southwest.
Texas.
Gravel as an article of commerce
has been shipped from here to many
points far and near. Most of the
gravel on the streets of Victoria
came from here, some has gone to
Goliad, Yorktown and in former
years many car load3 have gone as
far as New Orleans. At present
the gravel being shipped goes To
the| Bay City and is being used for
railway improvements alone, and
the shipments vary from five to
thirty cars per day, depending oh
the amount of improvement going
on. Several years ago, however,
gravel was shipped by the train
load instead of car load, but it was
when it was extensively used by

cars and as deep as the gravel. A
track is laid in this trench for the
cars and the sides are boarded up
to prevent it from caving. On this
frame work are erected doors to
rest on The edge of the cars. This
being done the gravel is first loos-
ened en each side of this construc-
tion by means of a large gravel
plow, and the mules and scrapers
are then employed to load the
gravel on the cars.
There have been many acres of
ground east of Cuero employed for
this purpose and there still remains
many more which can be used in
the same way. On a whole it is
one of our most important indus-
tries and seems to be growing
steadily.

This industry has its advantages
and disadvantages, as other indus-
tries, but financially its advantages
are in Cuero’s favor. ' The money
which is dsed in the employment
of labor is for home labor and this
keeps money at home and in cir-
culation.
For the benefit of those who
have never seen a gravel train
loaded we will will attempt a brief
discretion. The company selects
a pifccfc of gravel laud which
tends from four feet and upward in
depth. A trench is then made a

Stepped Against a Hot Stove. *
A child of Mrs. Geo. T. Benson, when
getting his usual Saturday night bath,
stepped back against a hot stove which
burned him severely. The child was in

that she had a bottle of Chamberlain’s
