Manhattan Academy.
IT is proposed to establish at or near the new
Town of Manhattan an Institution of Learning
to be called the Manhattan Academy and to ap
ply at the spring session to congress for an act of
incorporation lor the same. Jii outer to auancc
this object the undersigned agtee to form them-
selves into a company and to pay in installments
ss .required such proportion of a joint stock as is
severally opposed to their names to the Trustees
ol the institution to enable them to proceed forth-
with to the erection of suitable buildings for the
same. The said joint stock shall consist of one
hundred shares of fifty dollars each with the privi
lege of extending the same to two hundred shares
in case the trustees deem tne same advisable lne
following persons shall be considered as Trustees
until an election by the Stockholders shall have

or a portion of his Headright consisting of one
League and Labor of uul. cated land and a soldier's
discharge for three months services in the army.
To be bold for cash provided the appraisement can
be obtained in order to pay off the debts and ex-
pensei due by the succession.

of certain moneys upon tho 1st day of January 1S38
"iven by Thomas (Jaycc to Howard and LMeury all
of the county of Matagorda the time having expired
and the money not being paid will be sold for cash
on the twenty-eighth day of February next ensuing
so much of the one half of that certain tract piece
or parcel of knd known as the league first below
that granted to HH League on the west bank of the
Colorado River about twenty-two miles from the
town of Matagorda and further known as the tract
granted to "Thomas Caycc as a head rigiit as will
be sufficient to pay the sum of twenty-two hundred
and sixty dollars with interest and costs of sale and
advertisement in accordance with the instrument
before-mentioned. Said land was an early selec-
tion and on examination will be found well tim-
bered and very valuable which with its proximity to
market render it a good investment for the planter

on the sixth day of February next 1838 there will

of Matagorda and county aforesaid to the highest
and last bidder the Head right for land of HUSE
WIT deceased as a citizen of the Republic of
Texas also his right to land for three months ser-
vice as a soldier rendered said Republic as appears
bv a written discharge duly made and certified ;
also his right to lands as a soldier tor having en
listed during the war iu tne service olsaid Repub
lic. Terms of sale twelve months credit with ap
proved security and a special mortgage of the pro'
perty until final payment.
