Failure of Christians
in world’s turmoil
“As I look over the world and
see strife and turmoil among
men, I see the failure of Chris-
tians. Where Christianity has
gone and God’s people have done
their duty to their fellowman,
God has never failed to bless.”
The speaker was Dr. J.E.
Lowe, Southern Baptist Medical
missionary to Nigeria, speaking
before 91 guests of the Celina
Baptist Church’s annual Brother-
hood Sweethearts’ banquet Tues-
day evening.
Dr. Lowe related some positive
instances of the blessings of
Christianity in action in the re-
cently-built 32-bed, $100,000
Kontagora hospital in the
Moslem area of Northern Nigeria
where he and his wife have been
serving. The Christian medical
witness at Kontagora, especially
effective in reducing the high per-
centage of infant death, has
opened traditionally pagan vil-
lages to the preaching of the
Gospel of Jesus Christ, the mis-
sionary told his hearers.
In challenging the guests to
their responsibility toward mis-
sions Dr. Lowe said, “Missions
are a practical job. To do it we
must each seek for and fulfill
God’s mission task for us as indi-
viduals.”
The missionary, who is on
leave from the African field, is
working at Parkland Hospital,
Dallas. He is a native of Hunt
County and a graduate of South-
western Medical School.
