Four 14-year-old boys
from Celina narrowly es-
caped injury after starting a
fire with fireworks Saturday
afternoon inside of a trailer
along County Road 135.
Collin County Fire Mar-
shal Michael Smith said the
four were shooting Roman
candles at the trailer. They
went inside the trailer and
began shooting fireworks at
each other. A recliner chair
caught fire. The blaze
quickly spread to the rest of
the trailer. One of the boys
was nearly trapped inside
the trailer, but he escaped,
along with the other three,
uninjured.
Units from fire depart-
ments in Anna, Weston and
Celina put the trailer fire
and adjacent grass fire out.
The trailer was completely
destroyed. It was only occa-
sionally occupied.
It took 30 or 40 minutes
to put out the fire because
tankers had to be brought in.
There was no nearby water
source.
“When playing with fire-
works no one is the winner,”
Smith said.

Chickens were the topic of dis-
cussion for a large portion of Mon-
day’s regular Celina City Council
meeting.
Councilman Wayne Nabors is
definitely against any kind of fowl
living on less than 2 acres. Before
Planning Director Helen-Eve Lieb-
man began to outline the proposed
changes to the ordinance regulat-
ing keeping livestock in the city,
Nabors announced he would ex-
press his opinion.
“No chickens, roosters or any-
thing else on less than 2 acres,” he
said. “There are two problems on
small lot sizes — the smell and the
noise.”
The council approved these
changes to the ordinance. No fowl
are allowed on less than 2 acres.
Two enclosures for fowl will be al-
lowed on lots larger than 2 acres.
No more than six birds may be con-
tained in each enclosure and only
one rooster is allowed among the
dozen birds.

his job.
The EDC board of di-
rectors unanimously
granted the leave to Cor-
bett Howard at their
board meeting on Jan. 5.
The leave began Monday
and will run through

“The board’s inten-
tions are to engage a con-
sultant who will help us

ing Mr. Howard’s leave,”
Board Chairman Kyle
Rose said.
Howard served as
president of the Celina
EDC in 2001.
