Sheriff
5/8-Gaines County Sheriff’s
officers were called to a location
one-quarter mile east of
Seagraves on U.S. 83, where a
case of family violence was
reported.
Police
5/5--A complainant in the 600
block of Northwest Avenue G
told police that a person or
persons unknown had stolen his
son’s gray bicycle.
5/5—A complainant told police
that she had received a
threatening phone call.
5/6--A complainant in the 200
Mock of Northwest Avenue E
told police that a person or
persons unknown had taken a car
stereo from her vehicle. The
stereo was valued at $75, while
$200 damage was done to the
dashboard of the vehicle.
5/6—A complainant in the 400
Mock of Southwest 10th Street
told police that unknown
juveniles had thrown two eggs at
the side of her residence.
5/6—A complainant in the 800
block of Southwest Avenue H
told police that a person or
persons unknown had broken a
double window on the south side
of the residence with what
appeared to be a BB gun or pellet
gun. Damage was estimated at
$150.
5/7-While on routine patrol,
Seminole police observed a 1993
Chevrolet headed east in the 200
block of Southwest Avenue G on
the wrong side of the road.
Police stopped the vehicle and
noticed the strong smell of
alcohol. When the driver of the
vehicle, identified as Geronimo
Cavazos. 60. of 507 SW 11th
Street, did step out of the vehicle,
police said he nearly fell.
Cavazos was arrested for
driving while intoxicated.
5/7-A complainant in the 600
Mock of Southwest Avenue H
told police that a person or
persons unknown had damaged
the right front door of the
residence, causing $200 damage.
5/8-A complainant in the 700
block of Northwest Avenue F
told police that a person or
persons unknown had stolen his
professional spray paint gun,
valued at $75 from his vehicle,
while the vehicle was parked at
the residence. The same
complainant also told police that
a person or persons unknown had
entered his vehicle through an
unlocked door and stolen 50
cassette tapes, valued at $500 and
a tape box, valued at $15.
5/8—Seminole police arrested
two persons for public
intoxication in conjunction with
an incident at 4 pin.
Police were called to Seminole
Memorial Hospital in reference to
a hit and run victim. Upon
checking, it was found that three
other persons who were in the car

hospital.
After questioning the alleged
driver, Henry Unger,, police
arrested the man fdr public
intoxication.
Also arrested was the owner of
the vehicle, Jacob Peters, also for
public intoxication.
In addition, two tickets were
issued to juvenile females for
minors consuming an alcoholic
beverage.
5/8-Seminole police stopped a
vehicle at the Denver City
Highway and Northwest 5th
Street for racing and arrested the
driver and a passenger for
alcohol-related offenses.
After failing a field sobriety
test, the driver, identified as John
Rempel, 17, of Box 1441, was
arrested for driving while
intoxicated. A passenger in the
vehicle, Ruben Klassen was
arrested for public intoxication
after police said he clung to the
pickup for support after exiting
the vehicle and he had the strong
smell of an alcoholic beverage on
his breath.
5/8-A complainant in the 500
block of North Main told police a
person or persons unknown had
used a Mown spray paint to spray
graffiti on the north side of the
business. Damage was estimated
at $200.
Fires
5/6--A fire completely
destroyed what was left of a
house cm the Northwest 11th
Street extension.
A previous fire had destroyed
most of the structure and Friday’s
blaze got the rest of it.
5/9—Seminole Volunteer
Firemen received three calls of
fires near the Gaines County
Park, but rains had extinguished
them by the time firemen arrived.

and approved a request to pay half
of the cost of repair to the civil
defense siren. The county will pay
the other half of the total bill, which
came to $5,229.10.
The council also moved the
meeting date of the first meeting in
June to the first Monday, June 6,
instead of the second Monday, June
13.
Regular bills of $31,180.47 and
direct payments of $191,743.29
were approved for payment.
All council members were
present for the meeting.

Other actions taken by the

Delegate Assembly.
• Approved renewal of
contract with the Regional 17
Service Center for a vast amount
ANNULAR ECLIPSE-An annular eclipse, when the new moon;
passed in front of the sun, took place in Seminole between 11 and
11:30 a.m. Tuesday. It was difficult to see because of low clouds, but
persistence paid off for photographer Gene Gaines as he got this
shot between the clouds. The rarity will not occur again until the
21st century.

which lowered the company’s
mineral valuations in the Cedar
Creek area. The school will be
due a refund of approximately
$24,000 from CWE funds that
had been placed in escrow.

understood that an architect is
currently drawing up plans and
specifications. There will still be
cost of land and some matching
funds that the county may have to
