A politician and his wife
had a beef-stew marriage.
She was always beefing and
he was always stewed.
Tiring of the battle of
her and her husband she
consulted a fortune teller who
said, “Your husband will die a
horrible death.”
“Will I be acquitted?” she
asked.
Too many think of preying
on each other instead of
praying with each other.
But marriage is an
adventure in cooperation. It’s
bear and forbear, give and
forgive, refrain and restrain,
love and be loveable.
The Bible says, “Wives,
submit yourselves to your
husbands, as it is fitting in the
Lord. Husbands, love your
wives and do not be harsh
with them.”
Weekly Bible Verse
Your beauty should not come
from outward adornment,
such as braided hair and
the wearing of gold jewelry
and fine clothes. Instead, it
should be that of your inner
self, the unfading beauty
of a gentle and quiet spirit,
which is of great worth in
God's sight.

DOYCE C. DOOLIN
June 9, 1921 - July 31,
2010
Doyce Curtis Doolin was
born June 9, 1921 to Virgil
Doolin and Virgie Taylor
Doolin. Later, when Doyce
was around 2 years old, his
father died...a tragedy that
stayed with Doyce throughout
his life. His mother later
remarried a minister, Rev.
Luther Little. All preceded
Doyce in death, along with
stepbrothers and stepsisters:
Rev. Willie Little, Eva Lee
Little Bell, Charlie Little,
Claude Little, Dr. AlfredLittle,
and Winnie Little Stringer,
and brothers and sisters:
Eugene Doolin, Florene
Doolin Wickersham, Juanita
Doolin Moore, Clarence
Doolin, and Daphana Little
Davis (the only child from the
second marriage).
Doyce is survived by one
stepbrother, Rev. Arthur
Odell Little, of Ludlow,
Kentucky, and his younger
sister, Martha Virginia Doolin
Choate, of Dallas, Texas,
along with many nieces,
nephews, great-nieces and

nephews, great great great
nieces and nephews, cousins,
and friends.
Doyce served his country
as a Synthetic Training
Operator in the Army during
World War II. He rose to
the rank of First Sergeant
and received the American
Theater Ribbon, Victory
Medal, and Good Conduct
Medal. After his Honorable
Discharge in 1946, he earned
his Bachelor of Science
degree in Education. He
taught 6 weeks and quit! He
decided that teaching wasn’t
as easy as he had thought, and
that he was more suited to a
life fighting crime.
So, he applied to and
was accepted to the Texas
Department of Public Safety
(DPS) and was assigned to
the highway patrol unit in
Houston, Texas. The highest
profile case that Mr. Doolin
handled involved a manhunt
for a distant relative of Clyde
Barrow who had shot Doyce
and his partner Robert Crosby-
who later died from his
wounds. This was a defining
moment in Doyce’s life...he
had escaped death, and this
wouldn’t be the last time
during his law enforcement
career. Later, Doyce met
and married Lillian Danny
Donnell, who also preceded
him in death. Doyce earned
his Masters Degree from
Derward Dermont

Navy and served until he
was Honorably Discharged
in 1955 while stationed on
the U. S. S. Sierra during
WWII; the Asian-Pacific
Operation; and the China
Occupation; as Fireman First
Class. After serving in the U.
S. Navy, D. D. worked in the
family oil business before
joining the United States
Corp of Engineers. While
serving in the Corp, he was
commissioned to work on the
Lake Waco Project in Waco,
Texas and the Fishtrap Dam
and Lake project in Pikeville,
Kentucky before accepting
the position of Project
Manager for the Cooper Dam
and Reservoir Project in 1970
where local affectionately
referred to him and his family
as the “dam people. ” D. D. was
active as a community leader
for many years in Cooper and
Delta County from coaching
Little League baseball,
camping activities, golfing,
fishing, coordinating civic
projects, working with and
designing the local Chamber
of Commerce building, an
active and vibrant community
activist throughout his life and
he was always in the forefront
of bringing out injustices, and
sparking wide debate in local
politics. He retired from the
Corps of Engineers in 1979
and settled in Cooper as the
Patriarch of the Lynch Clan.
D. D. Lynch will be truly
missed by all that knew and
loved him.
D. D. Lynch was preceded
in death by his parents, his
brothers: Donald Zane Lynch
of Blaine, Washington.
Kenneth Merrill Lynch of
Peerless and his second
eldest son: John Paul Lynch
of Cooper.
D. D. was a loving and
devoted husband, father,

school sweetheart,and wife
of fifty-six years, Katherine
Colleen Butler-Lynch of

Catholic Church in Cooper,
Texas. In Lieu of flowers
please make your personal
donations to any charity close
to your heart. His final resting
place will be in the family
plot located in Windthorst,
Texas.
A family gathering was
held Tuesday, August 24,
2010 between noon and two
o’clock at 97 Lakeway Drive
in Cooper, Texas Friends
were invited to attend this
celebration of his life.
East Texas State University,
continued working for DPS
where he earned multiple
commendations including
being named a Special Texas
Ranger, and retired after 34
years of service.
He had a big heart. The
love that he felt for his family
was evident throughout his
entire life, being there for them
through many difficulties and
heartbreaks. To cite just one
example of his generous nature
- when his older brother lost
his little six weeks old baby,
Doyce sold his calf (given to
him by his stepfather) to buy
his brother a coat to wear to
the funeral. His dream was to
leave his possessions to his
family, following his death.
Because of that dream and
sacrifice, there will be students
who will be able to go to
school, contributions made to
charitable organizations, and
perhaps a little upgrade to the
Memorial Holiness Chapel in
Cooper, Texas on Kaufman
St, where his large family
(Doolin and Little) received
their training in Christianity.
As we all look back over
the years, with Doyce being
so ill, his family can still say,
“He wasn’t heavy - he was our
brother, our uncle, our friend.”
To quote his stepbrother,
Odell, who became his
treasured playmate, “We’ll
miss you, dear one, and we’ll
meet you in the morning.”
The family could never
say “thank you” enough
to Helen Anderson for her
love and support for Doyce
through these last years. The
family also wishes to extend
its heartfelt thanks to all of
Doyce’s friends and wonderful
neighbors on Dog Town Road
who visited him during his
illness. Our appreciation also
goes out to Doctors Tom and
Rick Selvaggio and the staff
at Hunt Regional Hospital,
Bob Draughn and the staff
at Country Home Estates,
the staff at Oak Manor, and
American Hospice Service.
And to Lisa Norris, his night
nurse, we appreciate your
selfless and extraordinary
care for Doyce. You were an
angel.
