Coach Green Discusses the new season
What’s the reason behind
the new district alignment?
How do you like it?
Well, they split 2A into two
separate divisions. Division I
teams play division I teams
and division II teams play
division II. What that does is
put bigger 2A teams playing
other big 2A teams and
smaller 2A teams playing
other small 2A teams. So it
should be more evenly split
which levels the field of
competition.
How do you think we
match up against the other
teams in our district?
I’m excited about the new
district, it’s going to be good
for us but I think it will be
a very competitive district.
Chisum has been good over
the last few years; Pewitt is
good every year, so I think
they are going to be tough.
Como-Pickton got better
all last year. Dekalb will be
competitive, they got a new
coach and he is going to stir
some interest and get things
going for them and Rivercrest
as well got a new coach. I’m
excited about getting into this
district for some change, see
new faces, new tempo, its
going to be great.
How has two a day
practice been going?
Other than the heat, it
has been going great. This
may be one of the hottest
two a day’s I can remember.
But even though it’s been
extremely hot our kids have
had great attitudes they have
been getting after it and
we’ve gained a lot of ground
from day one. These guys
have come back everyday
and gotten better and I told
them that is what makes good
teams is when you are willing
to make corrections and
change for the better every
day.
What areas does the team
need to work on before
district start?
Well, we just have a lot
of new faces out here and
we have to get everyone
introduced to the offense,
and defensively we are
changing a few things not
much but mainly working on
the offense that we are going
with, getting everybody on
the same page, focusing on
the new plays and learning
the new things we are adding
in and polishing the old ones.
How are the new coaches
adapting and fitting in?
Coach Shipman is new and
he is our defensive coordinator
this year and Coach Seelke is
our head boys basketball ball
coach who is also one of the
football coaches out here.
They are both fitting in great,
they are young and energetic
and doing great with the kids
and the kids are responding
well to them.
What are you looking to
get out of pre-season?
We are going to be very
competitive and what I am
looking to get out of it is that
we get better each week and
let our kids gain confidence.
We are just going to take one
week at a time up until our
bye week, get some rest and
be well rested ready to go for
our first district game against
Chisum.
What is going to be the
toughest game this season
in district?
As far as I‘m concerned,
Chisum is going to be the
toughest game because they
are first on the list so right
now we are focused on them.
We are going to take them
one at a time and we are not
going to look at anything past
Chisum right now. We will
approach them as if they are
the best team in the district
and just go from there.
Anything else you would
like to add?
The kids have worked
really hard, it’s been hot but
we have had great attendance
still a lot higher average than
years past, great attitudes.
Like I’ve said they have done
well with the heat and are
getting after it everyday.
