Charleston News
_By Vicki Vasco_
We are having lovely weather
in the East End. While I
am typing this column, it is
raining, which is wonderful.
The 50’s and 60’s Cooper
School Reunion was great
Saturday afternoon and
evening. Lots of people
attended the event, even
though it was pouring down
rain. I saw lots of people,
many that I didn’t even know.
Her are a few of the ones that I
knew; Jerald and Alice Wheat,
Mable Wheat (They were
serving some of her delicious
ice cream.), Gloria & Jerry
Matthews, the three Poteet
brothers, Jimmy Ainsworth (I
had planned to ask him if he
has another book about ready
about the Rivers family. I am
ready to read another one of
those books, but I never saw
him close enough to ask.), the
only teacher from that time
that I saw was Nelda Skinner
(She sure looks good.), Gary
& Judy (Smead) Thompson,
Robert Rouse and his wife
Shay (He said that his sister
Wanda was planning to
attend, but she was ill.), Katie
Nabors Malone, Margret
(Scott) Hoot from Canton
(Margaret spent the weekend
with Katie.), Grover Nabors,
Don & Shirley Smith, Billy
Jack Silman, Wanda Lawler,
Patricia (Lawler), Patricia
Blundell, Susie Stockton from
Mena, Ark., Margaret (Box)
& Ben Chessher, Patricia
(Smith), Treva (Box) in her
beautiful poodle skirt, and
her mother Mrs. Janell Box,
Marilyn Thurman, and her
sister, Melvin McFarlin,
Alma Click, Ellen (Leslie)
Oats, Billy Ford, Jill Wheeler
Turrentine and many others.
Everything was beautiful—
the old trophies, letter jackets,
balloons, everything. The
hamburgers and French fries
at the Snack Shack were
delicious. The cheerleaders
did a great job. The people
who got the event together
did a great job. There was
lots of good music. Shannon
Spillman Jones from Roxton
sang. Everyone seemed to
have a good time.
One class had a reunion at
Jalapenos Mexican Grill on
the square in Cooper Saturday
evening. This was the class
of 1990. They had a good
crowd.
Birthdays: Jackie Sue Douglas
and Lisa Chambliss 11/7;
Jimmy “Bimbo” Love and
Patricia Blundell 11/8; Lannie
Huie 11/10, Happy Birthday,
folks!
The candle lighter at the
Methodist Sunday morning
was Billy Watson, and the
ushers were Jaxon Preas, Jake
Murray, Journi Ingram and
Madison Murray. Ronnie
Morgan was the Worship
Leader, and Sandra Morgan
was the Children’s Church
leader and the Children’s
Sunday School teacher. Jacie
Phillips sang a beautiful song,
“Sanctuary.”
The Delta County Pictorial
book, “Images of America,
Delta County,” is supposed
to be ready January 17, 2011.
The purchase price is $21.99
and the shipping is $3.
The Breast Cancer Awareness
luncheon at the Delta County
Country Club Thursday was
a great success. Bonnie
Thomas, a local survivor,
was one of the speakers as
was Judy Silman. They did a
great job. Cris Tobin, a Texas
Oncology Nurse was the main
speaker.

To The Voters of Delta County:
When I, Glynana Herin, was appointed by the Delta County Commissioners
Court in November of 2009 to finish the term of the currently elected
treasurer, there were many unresolved issues in that office:
■Bank accounts had not been reconciled for almost three years;
■Penalties and interest had to be paid to the Internal Revenue
Servicedue to errors and delinquent payroll deposits amounting to
approximately $63,106.37;
■Unqualified persons were on Indigent Health Care, resulting in claims
being paid until they could be reviewed and disqualified, resulting in
another unbudgeted expense of $21,152.67 that taxpayers had to
pay;
■A Certified Public Accountant was hired and paid $16,858.00 (again
above budget) to assist the then treasurer with her duties;
-W-2’s for 2008 had not been sent to Social Security, therefore when
employees received wage reports no earnings were reported for that
year.
These are a few of the most serious issues, all of which have been
resolved in the past ten months. Since accepting the appointment, there
have been no late reports and no penalties or interest charged to the
County. When I filed for election, I personally paid my filing fees and
have paid for all other expenses for my campaign because I take pride
in the job and the County.
Now I am asking for your support and your vote so that I may continue
to keep the County current and up-to-date on financial matters. My
experience, dedication, and qualifications prove that I am capable of
doing an exemplary job as County Treasurer. Election Day is quickly
approaching; so if I do not get to see each of your personally, let me take
this opportunity to solicit your vote in the November 2 election.
On a more personal note, I was born and raised in Delta County, graduated
from Cooper High School, and have lived here al! of my life. This is my
home; I am a Democrat; and l want to be your County Treasurer.
Thank you,
Glynana Herin

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE RESIDENTS OF DELTA COUNTY
I am seeking the office of County Judge for Delta County. I have traveled
the length and breadth of this wonderful county and have met some really
nice people everywhere I have visited. I apologize to those residents that I did
not personally meet, but once in office, my hope is that I have the opportunity
to meet and visit every resident of Delta County.
I met a young lady the other day that asked me a very pertinent question:
Why should I vote for you as opposed to your opponent? I answered: My
30+ years of business experience, my experience with dealing with Lederal,
State, and local government entities that each project I am involved with has
a budget that I must meet, and that I am committed to the betterment of this
County as seen by my involvement in the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club
and SSRDA. This involvement started years before I entertained the thought
of seeking public office.
I could have added that I have pledged in writing to the citizens of Delta
County the following:
★ ACCOUNTABILITY of our TAX DOLLARS.
RESPECT to all CITIZENS in the Commissioners Court.
PROFESSIONAL conduct in the Commissioners Court.
CO-OPERATION with the CITY and CISD to stretch our Tax
Dollars.
CITIZENS voice being heard in Commissioners Court.
EFFICIENCY in YOUR tax Dollar Expenditures.
CITIZEN INPUT in Budget Preparation and Hearings.
ACTIVE pursuit of ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.
DEDICATED to the safety of our Citizens.
PROMOTION of DELTA County in
all possible venues with a POSITIVE
ATTITUDE.
