Cooper Bulldogs Corral Chisum
Mustangs in first game of district play
By Chris Gall
Sportswriter
The Cooper Bulldogs
started district play against the
Chisum Mustangs last Friday
night. The game was at Chisum
and it was their homecoming
and generally you would pick
your homecoming against a
team you feel confident about
beating. Friday night the
Bulldogs proved they will not
be an easy team to beat this
year. The game started off
slow and it was Chisum who
drew first blood, a 12-yard run
into the end zone and with a
little over three minutes left
in the first quarter they lead 7-
0. The Bulldogs started from
the 50-yard line after the kick.
The first play Montrel Roberts
picked up twenty yards. Then
a pass to Dan Beeler along
with a late hit penalty after the
play set up Zach Harrison for
and easy 2 yard touchdown
and the Bulldogs knotted it
up at 7 a piece. Moving on
to the second quarter Cooper
made a huge defensive stand
on 4th down from the 6-yard
line the defense stopped the
Mustangs and took over.
However Cooper was not able
to capitalize on the turnover
and would punt the ball back
to Chisum. The Mustangs
found the end zone one
more time late in the second
quarter, a 14-yard pass gave
them the lead but missed the
extra point, Chisum led 13-

7 at halftime. The Bulldogs
were deep in Chisum territory
halfway thorough the third
quarter when Darmarcus
Robinson took a handoff made
a nice cutback and was gone
to the end zone for a 23-yard
touchdown. Robinson had
3 carries for 50 yards. Dan
Beeler booted in the extra point
and the Bulldog had their first
lead of the game 14-13. On
the Mustangs next offensive
drive Ty Huie came up with
an interception and returned it
34 yard for a touchdown, pat
good Bulldogs led 21-13. It
was only a few plays into the
Mustangs next offensive drive
when Cooper came up with
another interception. This time
it was Darmarcus Robinson
who almost returned it for six
points but was brought down
around the 10-yard line. The
third quarter ended, Bulldogs
change sides and on 3rd and
11 Ty Huie rolled out lookin
and finally found Wyzer
Moore open in the back of
the end zone for the 12-yard
touchdown pass. Huie passed
for 70 yards completing 6/12.
Just like that the Bulldogs
completely turned the game
around. Later in the 4th
quarter the defense made
another huge stand on 4th and
1, Chisum on the Bulldogs 17-
yard line, a host of Bulldogs
made the tackle in the
backfield. The first offensive
play for Cooper Montrel
Roberts broke away for an 86-
yard touchdown give Cooper
a 34-14 lead. Roberts had 13
carries for 174 yards as well
as 2 receptions for 36 yards.
On the ensuing kickoff J.R
Marchand surprised everyone
catching the Mustangs off
guard with an onside kick.
Travis Oden recovered for
the Bulldogs, which just
about sealed the game, 34-14,
Cooper won. The Bulldogs
completely shut the Mustangs
out in the second half. Wyzer
Moore led the defense with 14
tackles, Darmarcus Robinson
right behind with 13 tackles,
Travis Oden with 11, and
J.R Marchand with 9. The
Bulldogs will travel to Paul
Pewitt for a tough game next
Friday.
