Klondike News
_By John dr Elizabeth Hopkins_
Hey, don’t forget the Klondike
Volunteer Fire Department
is hosting a Fourth of
July fundraiser on Sunday
afternoon July 4 starting
about 1:00 pm at Church
at Klondike facility. Come
out and enjoy a hamburger
dinner for $5.00 or hot dog
dinner for $3.00. Each meal
includes chips, a drink and
dessert. There will again be
fireworks at or about dark. So
come out, meet your friends,
and watch the show. We need
to support the fire department
so they can be there if (God
forbid) we ever need them.
See you there.
Phillip and Allie Stone had
daughter Sharon Jordan visit
almost daily last week. They
also had Louise Stone visit on
Sunday for their family Bible
study. They also went for a
ride a couple of days, just to
get out of the house.
Cindy and Gary Anderson
drove to Illinois last week
and brought Barry back with
them. Barry came to help
Gary in the hay fields and it
was most welcome. Barry
even went back to help on
the second day! (Good man!)
Melissa, Barry and Lexie
have gone home now but
the Andersons had a good
visit while they were here.
The Andersons also went to
Pickton for a family reunion
and to Caney for the family
Memorial Service. Melissa
got to attend both events this
year.
Wanda Helms attended a
wedding shower on Saturday
morning and a baby shower
on Saturday afternoon. After
the baby shower, Lisa and
Kacie came home with her
to play “Train”. Wanda won.
She was also the scorekeeper.
Is there a connection here?!!
Stella Martin and Patricia
Blundell went to Commerce
on Thursday for a bit of
shopping. On Friday Stella
went to Lorene’s for a visit.
Steve and Tina Rainey
celebrated their 28th
anniversary on Saturday
June 26. They celebrated by
setting up hog traps at Steve’s
oil lease! Oh, yes, they went
out to dinner later!
Janet and Jerry Currin went
to Kaufman Sunday. Janet’s
niece and sister-in-law hosted
a retirement party for Janet’s
twin brother John. He recently
retired from the City of Dallas
where he worked for 36 years
as a mechanic in the heavy
equipment department. Those
attending included Janet
and Jerry, Jerry and Sylvia
Wood, Ronald and Michelle
Wood and daughter Natalie,
Deena and Eric Henderson
and Tray Bledsoe, honoree
John and his wife Rita, their
daughter Penny and her
daughter Skylark, daughter
Courtney and her husband
Darren Ford, their son John,
Jr, his girlfriend Heather
and her daughter Paige
Farrell. The group feasted on
barbecue brisket, hot dogs,
beans, potato salad, cole
slaw, salad, melon medley,
German Chocolate cake and
Banana pudding. (Janet took
the pudding!) Janet also took
a “gift” for her brother to help
him occupy his free time.
The bag contained a coloring
book and crayons, a 200 piece
puzzle of one of the Disney
princesses, a combination set
of Go Fish/Old Maid cards, a
bottle of bubble solution and
a package of mini Moon Pies!
Sounds like he is all set!
Patricia Blundell heard from
all her children this weekend.
She also accompanied Billy
Martin to Margie Mills’ home
in Campbell. Ms. Mills lost
her husband Bill on Saturday
morning. Let’s all remember
this family in prayer during
their time of loss.
Earl and Maggie Thomas’
grandson Tim calls them
his “Go, Go Grandparents”
and it was certainly true this
week. The Thomas’ attended
every meeting of the revival
services at New Life Baptist
Church with Malcom Ellis
preaching. The services ran
through Wednesday and were
very well attended. There was
good preaching and a great
time in the Lord. Thursday
evening Maggie, Earl, Randy
and Cynthia had dinner with
Don and Debbie Drake and
Debbie’s mom Letha at the
Drake home in Paris. Earl’s
sister Nancy was a bit under
the weather and was unable
to attend. On Friday Maggie
went with Randy and Cynthia
to Greenville to see the New
Andrews Sisters. They were
dressed in period WAC
uniforms with mid-knee
length skirts and military hats.
The group was performing in
live concert (Earl had opted to
stay home) as part of the Audie
Murphy Days celebration at
the Fletcher-Warren Center.
The girls performed many
of the old 40’s hits such as
Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.
They had front row seats and
Randy had so much fun that
one of the singers wanted to
take him on tour with them.
Maggie had her picture made
with the girls. Before the
concert they had a wonderful
chili dinner.

We have had a little rain in
the East End, not much, just
a little. Every drop helps.
Maybe we will have more.
We have been having some
hot weather.
Katie Malone, her daughters
and her grandchildren went
to Six Flags Over Texas one
day last week. They reported
having a very good time. Julie
and Jalie Swaim visited Danny
and Judy Swaim while they
were in Arlington. They all
went to see the play “Always
Patsy Cline” in Paris Friday
evening.
Linda Baker and a group of
ladies went to see the play
Friday evening also.
Gloria Kirkpatrick, Shirley
Smith, and Katie Malone
went to see the play Sunday
afternoon. They sat with
Betty Thompson. They saw
several that they knew at
the play, David and Sharron
Nabors, Freda Smart, Pauline
Greenwood, Belle Hargroves,
and several others.
The Elmore family had a
family reunion at the East
Delta Community Saturday.
They had a nice crowd with
lots of good food.
Sarah Ann Nabors Packwood
spent the weekend in
Charleston last weekend and
took her mother to church
Sunday. Bonnie Nabors
Spivey of Garland, James
and Ora Frye Nabors of
Sunnyvale, and David Nabors
of Paris visited their mother
last week.
I talked with Don Nabors
Saturday. He reported that his
son, Jerry Don Nabors of Mt.
Pleasant, is doing better after
a stay in a Tyler hospital.
Nancy Blount, Katie Malone,
and Shirley Smith worked at
the Patterson Delta County
Museum in Cooper Saturday.
They visited the beautiful new
Prairie Rose Florist’s grand
opening after they closed the
museum.
Shirley attended a book
signing in Paris afterwards.
The book signing was for a
couple who were missionaries
in China. One of Shirley’s
former students was their
daughter-in-law.
Several from our side of the
North Sulphur River attended
the auction of the late Bunking
and Ora Lee (Jones) Malone
Saturday in Taylortown.
