Sing me a tune...
Local singing talent Teresa Hanson of Cooper sings
to Birchwood Nursing & Rehabilitation resident Melba
Crenshaw last Thursday afternoon. Hanson even provided
fresh fruit for the residents as they enjoyed her entertainment.
Hanson will be performing along with several others at Fifth
Sunday SongFest at the FUMC in Cooper starting at 4 p.m.

First Assemby of God holds Teen Challenge Presentation
Pastor Rick Richardson of
First Assembly of God, Coo-
per, invites the community
to a special presentation on
August 4 at 10:00 a.m. Paul
Ecker, Executive Director and
men from Teen/Life Challenge
will be sharing testimonies
and sermon. Teen Challenge,
now an international ministry
with well over 1100 centers
in 86 countries, was started in
1958 by the late David Wilk-
erson. It is considered one of
the largest and most success-
ful programs of its kind in the
world.
Wilkerson, then a young man
pasturing a church in eastern
Pennsylvania, learned of seven
teenage gang members in ur-
ban New York on trial for the
murder of another young man
during a gang fight. Troubled
by this “news” and sensing
God’s direction, Wilkerson
resigned his church, moved
to New York City and began
Teen Challenge to help gang
members and those addicted
to drugs and alcohol.
The “rest of the story” told
in “The Cross and The Switch-
blade, ” available in 35 differ-
ent languages, has been read
by millions. The important
early history of Teen Chal-
lenge’s impact on notorious
gang members is also shared
in Beyond the Cross and the
Switchblade, Run, Baby Run
and The Cross is Still Might-
ier than the Switchblade.
Teen/Life Challenge men are
people like you and me whose
lives have taken a 180 degree
turn because their hearts and
minds have been transformed-
unshackled! These men look
forward to meeting the com-
munity and those considering
assistance through the recov-
ery they have experienced.
First Assembly of God is lo-
cated at 54 Highway 24 By-
pass, Cooper, Texas.
