Stew & Chili
Cook off to
Benefit Library
Party after the Parade! A group of volunteers, in an ongoing
effort to raise money to support the Delta County Public
Library, announces a stew & chili cookoff on Saturday,
December 4, immediately after the Christmas Parade at the
Delta County Civic Center.
The lighted Christmas Parade is such a great event, and always
draws crowds to the square in Cooper. The friends of the
library encourage all the parade participants and spectators to
come to the Civic Center immediately after the parade for a
fun-filled evening. Lots of area stew and chili masters will be
serving their award-winning recipes for the culinary delight of
all attending! Tickets are only $5.00. What a bargain! Have
your fill of chili and/or stew and complete your meal with a
homemade dessert, and support your local library - all at the
same time!
There’s more! Live entertainment! The Delta Crossroads
band has graciously volunteered their time to entertain the
crowds. What a way to exhibit the spirit of giving! So mark
those calendars for this not-to-be-missed event. Tickets will
be available at the Delta County Chamber of Commerce as
well as the Delta County Public Library.
Thanksgiving
celebration in
Cooper
Thanksgiving Day will again be a celebration of love and
giving at First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on
November 25. This has become a wonderful and fulfilling day
for all who are part of this event - for those who are served
and for those who serve. Church members, children, and
youth work together with volunteers from other churches in
the community and even surrounding towns to provide this
service. Many of the workers have participated every year for
the eighteen years that the event has been held at the church.
Many guests also have enjoyed the food and fellowship for
eighteen years.
Morris Partain’s dream of “entertaining angels unaware” has
evolved into a very special event for many local residents. It
is planned to meet the needs of persons who do not otherwise
have a place to celebrate Thanksgiving and has become a
family tradition for many church members, for many guests,
and for the community.
Turkey and dressing, gravy, various casseroles, homemade
salads, vegetables, desserts, and hot rolls will be served - just
like at home! Approximately 250 people have been served in
the past. The meal is provided free of charge.
Methodist Church members are looking forward to serving
guests again this year. Home deliveries may be made by calling
903-395-4263 or 903-395-2332 by Wednesday, November 24.
Transportation for guests wishing to come to the church for the
meal may also be arranged by calling one of those numbers.
Veterans honored
Local Veterans were honored at the Veteran’s Day program hosted by Cooper Independent School District on Thursday,
November 11, 2010.
Benefit Dinner declared a Success
The Benefit Dinner held for
Angela Heath was declared
a huge success. The dinner
took place on Saturday,
November 13 at the new
Cooper Elementary School.
Many friends, family and
supporters attended the
event. Heath was diagnosed
with Burkitts Lymphoma in
September. Angela Heath
her husband Regan, children
Savanna and Tara, and her
mother Ann also attended the
benefit dinner. There were
around fifteen Chili/Stew/
Bean Cookers, eighty cakes,
and one hundred and nine
silent auction items. There
were also many live auction
items such as dishes, a calf,
a medicine cabinet, a wheel
burrow, quilts and more. The
whole town came together
as friends to work a special
event. The great thing about
it is that it wasn’t just Delta
County people that attended,
people from Paris, Sulphur
Springs, Commerce and other
surrounding areas attended.
A Girl Scout Troop from
Quinlan even made cupcakes
to donate for the auction.
“I just want everyone to
know I had so much fun
tonight, it was sensational.
There aren’t words to describe
how I feel; I had so much fun
I just didn’t want to leave. We
give God all the glory for me
getting better and for tonight,”
she said. Entertainment
for the evening consisted of
music by Revered Shannon
McGuire of Roxton and
Silence Broken of Cooper;
Speaker, Brother Calvin
Turnage; and the auction was
led by Danny Lyle.
This event is something that
many will be talking about
for years to come. Thanks to
all involved, the Fundraiser
brought in $6,500 plus $900
in donations bringing the total
to $7400 collected for the
Heath family.
The Family would like to
thank the Cooper Review,
Cooper ISD, Delta County
Chamber of Commerce, the
Churches, the Businesses and
ALL of the individuals who
have supported their family
through prayer, donations, to
the ones who came out to the
fundraiser, to the ones who
cooked, those who worked,
who donated items and their
time, and to the those who
came out. “There are just too
many to thank,” said Heath.
