announces School
Board Elections
Two vie in each
primary for
County Judge’s
position
The Cooper ISD school
board called for a May 8^,
2010 School Board Election
during their regular meeting
held February 15,2010. Sign-
ups for a place on the ballot
will continue until Monday,
March 8^, at 5:30 pm. There
Two candidates will
seek the position of County
Treasurer during the March
2, 2010 Primary Elections,
Republican candidate Bonnie
Hobbs and Democratic
candidate Glynana Herin.
Hobbs states that she is
seeking office because she
wants “To provide us a more
efficiently run county and
allow her to be part of a team
that will work towards being
more efficient.”
When asked of her
qualifications for County
Treasurer she stated, “I have
twenty years plus working
for Department of Defense
Finance and Accounting,
Department of the Army,
Ocean Spray and Sears Credit
Center. I have performed all
facets of payroll, accounting,
bookkeeping, account
audits, reconciled bank
statements and that of office
administrator.”
Hobbs feels the three most
significant areas of concern
for the office are the quality
of audits, State and Federal
reports and Indigent grants.
If elected, she hopes to
address these concerns by
identifying weak areas and
take corrective measures
by implementing workable
solutions to strengthen them
and make them efficient.
To the voters of Delta
are three 3-year terms open
and one 2-year unexpired
term open. Applications can
be picked-up at the CISD
Administration Office 440
SW 3rd Street from Dianne
Thomas or. Rachel Arthur.
County she says, “I am a
proactive, organized and
analytical person who works
independently as well as
part of a team. I will bring a
professional and streamlined
treasurer’s office to the people
of Delta County.”
Glynana Herin was born
and raised in Delta County
and currently lives in Lake
Creek. Herin states that she
is seeking office to “run the
office in a professional and
prudent manner.”
When asked of her
qualifications she stated, “I
have twenty years experience.
I know how to prepare all
the monthly, quarterly, and
year end reports. I can do all
aspects of payroll and payroll
deposits.”
Herin feels the three most
significant areas of concern
for the office are to “Make
all reports on time, pay all
accounts payable on time
and screen all indigent health
applicants.”
To the voters of Delta
County she states, “ I can
and will be a competent
and through Treasurer for
Delta County and save the
taxpayers money by not
having interest and penalties
and late fees on any reports or
payroll deposits. Experience
is the best qualification for
the job.”
Two candidates will seek
the position of County Judge
during the March 2, 2010
Primary Election, incumbent
Democratic Ted Carrington
and Republican candidate
Herb Brookshire.
Carrington states he is
seeking to stay in office
because he wants “To
continue serving the people
of Delta County as County
Judge.”
When asked of his
qualifications for County
Judge, he stated, “I have
twenty years experience in
County Government. I served
as Precinct 4 Commissioner
for seventeen years. The last
three years I have held the
office of County Judge.”
Carrington feels the
three most significant areas
of concern for the office
are working with County
Attorney in County Criminal
Court being hopeful of
helping defendants get their
life straightened out, continue
seeking grants and continue
working with other offices in
the courthouse to better serve
Delta County.”
To the voters of Delta
County he says, “If re-
elected I will keep a common
sense approach to county
government.”
Herb Brookshire lives in
Cooper and has been married
for forty years.
Brookshire states that he
is seeking office because
he wants “Delta County
residents to observe an open,
efficient county government
that utilizes all the resources
available to improve our
quality of life. With my
business and civic experience
and by taking one step at a
time, and with your help we
can improve our county and
make it more attractive to
those who would join us.”
When asked of his
qualifications for County
Judge he stated, “I have a BB A
from ETSU 1968 and have
been a business owner for 35
years working with federal,
state and local government
entities in the construction
industry, five years as
general manager of a national
corporate entity, seven years
member of Cooper Lions
Club, two years as president,
and currently seeking sixth
year as Chamber Director and
second term as president.”
Brookshire feels the three
most significant areas of
concern for the office are the
growth of tax base, efficiency
of county government in
fiscal areas and utilization of
state, federal, and foundation
(corporate) grants.
To the voters of Delta
County he states, “Delta
County first-fair taxes through
economic development
and fiscal responsibility,
involvement with civic and
community events, respect
for all those we serve,
strong leadership and total
commitment to serving with
honesty and integrity.”
County Treasurer's
seat sought by two
seeking Justice of the Peace position
Several candidates
Three candidates will seek the position
of Justice of the Peace during the March
2, 2010 Primary Election, Republican
candidates Chuck Reed and Monty G.
Hobbs, Sr. and Democratic candidate
Jane Poole. Incumbent J.P Bud Skinner
is not seeking re-election.
Chuck Reed lives in Cooper, has been
married 33 years and has raised three
children in Cooper.
Reed states that he is seeking office
because he wants “Delta County to
prosper and have a court system that
is fair for everyone.” He states he will
“make decisions based on the facts of
the case.”
When asked of his qualifications for
Justice of the Peace he stated, “I now
serve as back-up Justice of the Peace
to Judge Bud Skinner. I know some
of the processes and requirements for
the job. I have been involved with the
coroner’s duties of the office and have
spent time with Judge Skinner learning
the magistrate requirements of the job.”
Reed feels the three most significant
areas of concern for the office are to be
fair and open with the public, listening
to the facts and making fair and accurate
decisions, to educate and promote safe
driving and to improve relations with
the courthouse. If elected, he hopes
to address these concerns by being a
good listener and obtaining the facts
and “make unbiased decisions based
on those facts.” Reed would also like
to “Start a program where requirements
include minor drivers to participate in
driver safety programs as a promoter of
safe driving.” Reed also promises to be
open to other departments by listening
and working with them.
To the voters of Delta County he says
“All of my adult life I have supported my
community with service. I have served
on the Cooper City Council. I serve now
as a Captain of the Fire Department.
I served six years as a promoter and
tournament director of the Chamber of
Commerce Bass Tournament Fundraiser.
I served two years as a police officer in
Ladonia. I now serve as back up J.P. to
Judge Skinner. I serve not because I have
to serve, but because I want to serve.”
Monty Hobbs, Sr. has been married for
38 years and has three children and six
grandchildren.
Hobbs is seeking the position of
JP because “Serving as Delta County
Justice of the Peace will afford me
the opportunity to give back to the
community. I will do this by bringing
my life’s experiences in management
and leadership, both administrative and
hands on, to the office and to serve the
needs of the citizens of Delta County.”
When asked what qualifications
for the job he had, he responded “I
have 96 hours towards a Bachelors
degree in business. I have worked as
an under cover narcotics investigator
and uniformed patrolman. I graduated
from the Missouri State Highway
Patrol Law Enforcement Academy
and have completed 52 hours in the
Criminal Justice Education Program in
Missouri. I am a retired U. S. Army Non-
Commissioned Officer, have worked ten
years in manufacturing, seven of which
were mid level management responsible
for six production processes and up to 50
associates.
Hobbs feels the three most significant
areas of concern for the office are a more
professionally run, public office; to use
the state funded OMNI Program and
truancy. If elected he says he would use
his years of experiences in leadership
and management to identify and keep
the policies that do work and replace
those that don’t.
To the voters of Delta County he states,
“I believe my experiences as a police
officer, my leadership and management
skills used in the military and in
manufacturing have taught me the value
of the three things I have promised Delta
County as the theme of my candidacy:
Integrity, Courage and Fairness. This
will also be the theme of my office.”
Jane Poole lives in Cooper, is married
and has one son. Poole states that she is
seeking office to “bring integrity to the
office of Justice of the Peace.”
When asked of her qualifications she
stated, “I have worked with the public
most of my life. While in Delta County,
I worked for the Cooper Co-op for two
years and Cooper Farm and Seed Center
for 14 years.”
Poole feels the three most significant
areas of concern for the office are to “Be
fair and honest, available to the public at
all times and to be impartial.”
To the voters of Delta County she states,
“I am willing to take training courses
throughout the summer, at my expense,
to learn as much as possible. I believe I
have the qualifications to meet the public
and be fair in every decision.”
Vote in the March
2 Primaries
Voting is a privilege and a
right and it’s time to exercise
that right by voting in the
March 2, 2009 Republican or
Democratic Primary.
Voting in the Primaries
does matter. The Texas state
primary elections are one
means by which a political
party nominates candidates
for the general election that
will be held on November
2nd. A voter may only vote
in either the Democratic or
Republican Primary.
In the event that a clear winner
of at least 50 percent of the
vote is not determined for any
race, a run-off election will
be held. In order to vote in
the run-off election, the voter
must have previously voted in
the Primaries.

Two seek Precinct 2 spot
The candidate who will be
seeking the position of County
Commissioner, Precinct 2
during the March 2, 2010
Republican Primary Election
is Jerry Derr.
Derr lives in Delta County
and is married to Pam Derr
and has two children, John
Derr and Tricia Beckstrom.
Derr states that he is seeking
office because he believes
“The citizens of Precinct
2 deserve someone who is
civic minded, who wants to
improve our community and
who will repair and maintain
our roads. Someone who will
vote against property tax
increases and who is not in it
for the paycheck but just plain
wants to be proud of where
we live.”
When asked of his
qualifications for County
Commissioner he stated,
“My qualifications are
thirty-five plus years of road
construction, maintenance of
heavy equipment, operating
heavy equipment and logging.
Twenty of these years have
been in management and I
know what it is to draw up
a budget and stay within the
budget.”
Derr feels the three most
significant areas of concern
for the office are road
improvements, Commissioner
CourtMeetings, and economic
development and property
taxes.
To the voters of Delta
County he states, “I believe
to be a good candidate for
any office you need to be
civic minded with a servant’s
heart. I am a candidate for
Commissioner Precinct 2
because I want the best for our
community. I am committed
to see a better Delta County. I
will always answer my phone
and be open to the people I
represent.”
