Klondike News
By John dr Elizabeth Hopkins
Did you survive the Arctic air
we just had? I hope you didn’t
have any trouble with frozen
pipes or anything. The repairs
would have been miserable
in that weather. Even after
the thaw, temperatures were
too cold for comfort if you
had to work outdoors. But,
praise the Lord, even this
will pass. Then all we will
have to gripe about will be
the summer drought and 100
degree temperatures. Can we
ever be satisfied?
Cindy and Gary Anderson
had grandchildren spending
the night Saturday. Cindy
said Melissa called and told
Gary, “Dad, I need your help.’5
Gary said “TU be there.
What do you need?” Melissa
replied that she needed help
shoveling snow from her
driveway. Gary said, "I’ll be
there - next July!”
Wanda Helms said the girls
were enjoying their first week
back at school. They were
eager to see their teachers!
Vickie, Taysia, Trina and
Wanda went to Rockwall
for lunch and to do a bit of
shopping on Saturday.
Stella Martin said she was
just staying home keeping
warm. It was too cold to go
anywhere. (I agree!)
Larry George was enjoying
his children this weekend.
Larry, Tanner and Bayleigh
went to the movies on
Saturday to see “Leap Year”.
They were home on Sunday
watching a movie on TV, but
Bayleigh said that Tanner
was not watching with them,
he was playing a game. (At
least he was indoors.)
Janet and Jerry Currin had
Rodney and Jordan visiting
last Monday. They came for
haircuts and just hang out for
a while. Since then Jerry has
been fighting the cold weather
to keep his house warm and
water flowing. Staying warm
was a full-time job this week,
right, Jerry?
On Tuesday Earl Thomas’
sister Nancy from Paris and
her daughter Margery from
Florida had lunch with Earl,
Maggie and Randy. Randy
had not seen Margery for
several years and they enj oyed
their reunion. On Saturday,
Randy and Shari had lunch
with Earl and Maggie.

It has sure been cold in the

The Delta United Methodist
Women met at the Enloe
Methodist Church’s
Fellowship Hall Thursday
evening. Nancy Duncan was
in charge of the program.
Dolores Jackson read the
Prayer Calendar, and Carol
Beth King read the Response
Moment.
I saw in last week’s Cooper
Review that several of our
students from the East End
did well in U.I.L. We are very
proud of them.
The East Delta Baptist
Youth and a few from the
Charleston Methodist went
bowling Saturday afternoon.
The men’s breakfast was well
attended Sunday morning.
The Toney Brothers were
there for an evening of music
Wednesday evening.
Michael Woods of Chicota
was our guest speaker at the
Methodist Sunday. His wife
and some of his kin came with
him. Billy and Aubrey Watson
were our ushers. Dolores
Jackson sang a beautiful song,
“He Touched Me.”

Martha Wimpee of Corsicana,
formerly of Kensing, passed
away Sunday, January 3. Her
services were in Corsicana at
the Northside Baptist Church.
I talked with Janice Lee Viser
of McKinney of Terrell last
Friday. It was her birthday.
Her daughters had taken her
to lunch. She was feeling
great.
Geneva Chandler has been
on the ill list. She is out of
the hospital and feeling much
better.
I want to recommend a good
book to you, “Murder Aboard
the Choctaw Gambler.” It is
a Jency Dewhurst mystery.
Sharon Ervin of McAlester,
OK, formerly of Paris, wrote
the book. She graduated from
Paris High School. This book
is based on an investigation
Ervin did in 1969.
Have a good week!

Crimson River Cowboy Church
Crimson River Cowboy
Church would like to
introduce Doug and Sonia
Dawson to you. Doug started
his life by traveling the rough
road of being rodeo cowboy
in the days of his youth, then
went on to manage ranches,
teach in public schools and
then started shoeing horses,
all the while preaching/
teaching the gospel. He is
even shoeing horses here in
Delta County. As you can
see, he has lived his life in
the rural/western culture
with a large portion of that
time being on horseback.
And yes, his boots have the
spur marks to prove it.
Come join us, as
we continue our non-
traditional services through
such outreaches as feed
lot ministries and arena
events—all used to remove
barriers and reach the rural/
western culture with the
gospel of Jesus Christ. A
Cowboy Church is Christ-
centered, family oriented,
non-traditional and non
judgmental. The Cowboy
Church is for those who are
cowboy or country at heart
with the message of Jesus
Christ being presented in a
way that is relevant to, and
focused on, those that adhere
to the western culture.
Services on Sunday
morning begin at 10:30 am
and Wednesday night service
at 6:30.
If you have any questions,
do not hesitate to contact
Doug Dawson at 970-799-
