April Students of the Month
Cooper High School
Students and Faculty recently
selected Whitney Deatherage
and Trevor Williams as
April Students of the Month.
They were selected for their
outstanding citizenship,
character, and participation in
student activities.
Whitney is the daughter
of Scotty and Mariana
Deatherage. She has a sister,
Kara, and a brother, Aaron.
Throughout high school,
Whitney has been a member
of National Honor Society
and Fellowship of Christian
Athletes. She served as
Recreation Leader and
Secretary of FCA. She has
served on the Student Council
as Treasurer and currently
serves as the secretary along
with being vice-president of
her class the past two years.
Whitney has been a member
of the golf team for three
years and helped her team win
District in 2009. She has also
run track and cross country.

was a regional qualifier her

Trevor has been a member of
the varsity football team. He
is a member of the Drama
Club and has participated in
One Act Play. Trevor has
received All Star Cast honors
the last two years in One Act
Play competitions. Trevor
currently serves as National
Honor Society Treasurer,
Fellowship of Christian
Athletes President, and Drama
Club Vice-President. After
graduation in June, Trevor
plans on attending Texas A
& M, Commerce. During
his free time, Trevor enjoys
leading worship for the First
Baptist Church Youth and
hanging out with friends.

Brass quintet receives highest rating at
State UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest
On May 29, 5 members (8^), and Tyler Williams Quintet piece entitled Quintet
of the Varsity Band- Sarah (8^), traveled to Austin to No.l Movement 3: Allegro
Ruzicka (lltJl grade), Jack perform in the UIL State Solo Moderato.
Chambliss (lO^1), Austin and Ensemble Contest. The The students received a

performance is a highly
competitive contest with the
most common score being
a Division III or IV. The
students’ judge (Dr. Rod
Schueller) was extremely
impressed by the students’
professional approach to their
performance. He commented
on how mature their ensemble
sound was and how musically
they played together as a
group. After the performance
he asked each student what
grade they were in and he
was shocked to find out how
young the group was! He
was very excited about our
students’ performance and
encouraged them to continue
playing together as a group!
He thanked them for playing
with such a high level of
musicality!!
The Delta Roping
Club is seeking
Rodeo Queen/
Princess contestants
The Delta Roping Club is seeking Rodeo Queen/Princess
contestants for their annual rodeo. The contestants must be 18
and under.
The entry deadline will be on Monday, June 21st.
The club is asking that if anyone is interested in becoming a
contestant you should contact Heather at 903-395-2855.
The annual rodeo event will be on Friday, July 16^ and
Saturday, July 17^ at the Cooper Rodeo Arena and City Park.
On Saturday, July 17^ the rodeo parade will begin at 5 p.m.
Suzanne Walker
installed as president
of local Retired
Teachers Association
Suzanne Walker, a retired
educator from Cooper ISD
and resident of the Charleston
Community, was installed as
president of the Lamar-Delta
Retired Teachers & School
Employees Association at a
meeting held recently in Paris.
She will serve in that capacity
for the 2010-12 time period
beginning July 1. Other
officers installed include Carol
Rooks, First Vice President
and Membership Committee
Chairman; Elaine Ballard,
Second Vice President and
Public Relations Committee
Chairman; Marilyn
Threadgill, secretary; Rita
Sparks, Treasurer; and Paul
Payne, Past President.

Local 4H,ers
to attend
shooting
camp
Local 4H members Austin Chambliss, Sally Chambliss, and
Jack Chambliss Jr. will be attending 4H shooting Camp at
College Station.
Sally, Austin and Jack
Jr. Chambliss have been
selected to attend the Texas
4-H shooting camp at College
Station, Texas. This is an
intensive training in trap,
skeet and, five stand styles of
shotgun shooting. This camp
is for Texas 4-H’ers to get
really in-depth training from
Texas champions, nationally
acclaimed and world class
shooters who give of their
time to support our Texas 4-H
shooting sports program.
This will be the second
year for Jack Jr. and Austin
to attend and the first year
for Sally. Their father, Jack
Chambliss, is the Delta 4-H
shotgun coach and has also
been selected to attend as
assistant coach.
Jack and Austin have been
shooting shotguns for three
years and Sally has been
shooting for one. Jack and
Austin will be getting special
instruction in skeet shooting
and Sally will be receiving
special instruction in trap.
This year’s American camp
runs from June 9^ through
June 12^. It is available to 4-
H’ers starting at eleven years
old. The Chambliss’ will be
attending this camp. There
is also an International camp
for 4-H’ers that teaches the
International and Olympic
form of these games. It is
available to kids from eleven
to nineteen years old.
This is a great opportunity
for these children and they
are really looking forward to
attending.
Delta County youth
baseball community
workday
The Delta County Kids
Baseball Association is
having a community workday
on Saturday, June 12th, at 8
a.m. to work on the Cooper
Baseball fields. The Dixie
Youth All-stars Tournament
is scheduled to start Friday,
June 25th and work on the
stadium must be complete and
pass inspection prior to the
start of the games. Volunteers
are needed to help work on
fences, mow and weed eat, dirt
work, woodwork and general
cleanup. Anyone owning a
tractor, shredder, mowers,
gloves or paintbrush is asked
to join the efforts. A flagpole,
as well as American, Texas and
Cooper flags are also needed.
Community members who are
unable to help with physical
work can help by bringing
drinking water and snacks
to volunteers. Donations
will also be taken for those
who would like to help the
youth purchase uniforms and
equipment. All donations are
tax deductible. The Delta
County Baseball Association
would like to make sure that
the children have a safe,
clean and beautiful place to
play baseball. For further
