Overcome evil with
good
Romans 12: 3-21
3 For by the grace given
me I say to every one of you:
Do not think of yourself more
highly than you ought, but
rather think of yourself with
sober judgment, in accordance
with the measure of faith God
has given you. 4 Just as each
of us has one body with many
members, and these members
do not all have the same
function, 5 so in Christ we
who are many form one body,
and each member belongs
to all the others. 6 We have
different gifts, according to
the grace given us. If a man’s
gift is prophesying, let him
use it in proportion to his [a]
faith. 7 If it is serving, let him
serve; if it is teaching, let him
teach; 8 if it is encouraging,
let him encourage; if it is
contributing to the needs
of others, let him give
generously; if it is leadership,
let him govern diligently; if
it is showing mercy, let him
do it cheerfully 9 Love must
be sincere. Hate what is evil;
cling to what is good. 10 Be
devoted to one another in
brotherly love. Honor one
another above yourselves. 11
Never be lacking in zeal, but
keep your spiritual fervor,
serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful
in hope, patient in affliction,
faithful in prayer. 13 Share
with God’s people who are
in need. Practice hospitality
14 Bless those who persecute
you; bless and do not curse.
15 Rejoice with those who
rejoice; mourn with those who
mourn. 16 Live in harmony
with one another. Do not
be proud, but be willing to
associate with people of low
position. Do not be conceited.
17 Do not repay anyone evil
for evil. Be careful to do
what is right in the eyes of
everybody. 18 If it is possible,
as far as it depends on you,
live at peace with everyone.
19 Do not take revenge, my
friends, but leave room for
God’s wrath, for it is written:
“It is mine to avenge; I will
repay,” says the Lord. 20 On
the contrary: “If your enemy
is hungry, feed him; if he is
thirsty, give him something
to drink. In doing this, you
will heap burning coals on his
head.” 21 Do not be overcome
by evil, but overcome evil
with good.
“This weeks Son Light”
The righteousness of God
will cause the believers to
conduct himself in a Godly
manner. The Christian conduct
is to be caring for others,
loving faithfully in spite of
the response received.

Until next time... You
should evaluate every
decision on the basis of
biblical principles, knowing
that obedience brings God’s
blessings.
The country and southern
gospel band “Newfire” has
signed a recording contract
with Tate Music group and will
be releasing their first album
in the late summer or early
fall of 2010. Manager, Leon
Hanson of Cooper, promises
new and unheard songs for
the album the album. Hanson
states, “We have been working
hard on new songs for our first
album and are very excited
about presenting it. The songs
that will be featured will be
ones that have never been
heard before.” The band is
scheduled to go on tour across
the country shortly after the
Red Skelton’s little boy,
Richard, was ill and growing
weaker.
The doctor urged the family
to go to the cafeteria to eat,
saying, “I’ll call you if there
is a change.”
While eating, word came
that the end was near, and
they hurried to his side.
“Mom,” said the little boy,
“kiss me. Dad, kiss me. And
album is released.
The group, which was put
together in the fall of 2009,
plays locally in Cooper on
the first and third Saturday
night of each month, at 921
W. Dallas from 6 p.m. to 9
p.m. “Newfire” also plays in
surrounding areas at several
churches, functions and
events. Members of the band
are Teresa Hanson, Cooper
and Jimmy and Carol Prater
of Cooper, vocals; Daryl
Moore of Sulphur Springs
on drums; William Brown of
Bogota, Texas, lead guitar;
and Johnny Florez of Soper,
Oklahoma on bass.
sis, you kiss me.”
She hesitated, and he said,
'‘Hurry up, Sis! I don’t have
all day.”
There are some who have
shown no love for God’s Son.
The have neglected Him.
So the Bible says, “Kiss
the Son,” that is, accept Him.
And like the little boy said,
you “don’t have all day.”

Ben Franklin homecoming
The 54th annual meeting
of the Ben Franklin Home
Coming and Memorial
Day service began Sunday
morning, May 30th, at 10:00
a.m. at the Ben Franklin
Garden of Memories
Association.
Members of the Board of
Trustees, Ladoice Hervey,
Loyd Vandygriff, Bruce
Shirley, Ted Foster and James
Campbell greeted members,
guests and visitors. Peggy
Hervey, Georgia Foster and
Joyce Brunson registered
approximately sixty-five
attendees.
Prelude Music was
played by Nelda Campbell,
pianist Rev. Mona Millard,
Pastor of the church, opened
the service with a call to
worship and invocation.
Ladoice Hervey, President
of the Cemetery Association,
welcomed everyone and made
announcements. The deaths
since last years meeting
were: Pauline Bowen, Aline
Freeman, Floyd Thomas,
Maude Walker, Lena (Miller)
Moon, Terry Charles Brunson,
and Merwin Moss. A moment
of silent prayer was held in
remembrance.
A memorial of veterans
was observed. Hervey noted
that buried in the Ben Franklin
Garden of Memories were
five civil war veterans, sixteen
WWI veterans, I Okinawan
war veteran, two Korean War
veterans, one female soldier
from WWII and forty-seven
WWII veterans.
Gospel music group,
“The Establishment”, was
introduced. Members of this
group are descendants of the
residents of Ben Franklin
from the early 1900’s, the
Bob Tate family. All enjoyed
the wonderful music they
presented.
James Gaylon Graham, the
guest speaker for the day from
Chattanooga, TN gave a very
inspiring message. Graham
was born in Ben Franklin
and attended schools here
and Pecan Gap. He talked
of life styles when he was a
boy growing up in the small
community and kinds of
values taught to him then as
compared to what is going on
in the world today. He is now
a very successful businessman
in Tennessee due to how his
early training to be a hard
working and honest boy. He
was taught to be truthful,
honest and faithful to his
fellowman...always do your
best to be the best by living
by these principles.
At the close of his
speech, Rev. Millard gave
the Benediction to close
the Memorial Day Service.
Mr. Hervey requested the
congregation to remain at the
church for a short business
session. He reported that he
had mailed out 180 letters to
members and only a few had
been returned. Ms. Moore,
secretary/treasurer said
she only received fifty-five
responses with donations and
lunch reservations. Mr. and
Mrs. Loyd Vandygriff has
done a lot of work cleaning
off old flowers and debris in
the cemetery and had placed
seventy-two flags on the
veterans graves.
Recognition was given Joe
Foster, who has asked to resign
from the Board of Trustees
due to health problems. His
wife, Georgia Foster and Loyd
Vandygriff were elected to
serve the next three years on
the board. No other business,
the meeting adjourned and a
catered lunch was served in
the chapel center to sixty-six
people by Murray’s Barbecue
from Cooper. It was a beautiful
day with no rain and plenty of
sunshine, a day of visitation
and promise to return next
year.
