Long time Klondike
residents Allie and Phillip
Stone will celebrate their
65th wedding anniversary
on Dec. 7, 2010. Allie
came from Arkansas with
her family to pick cotton
in Texas in 1945. While
here she and Phillip
met. Phillip was so taken
with Allie that he persuaded
her to remain in Texas and
they were married a few
months later. They have
four children and several
grandchildren and great-
grandchildren. Phillip
worked for the highway
department for 30 years
until he retired and Allie
sewed in dress factories
during their marriage.
Congratulations to both
of them and we wish them
all the best in the future.
Wanda Johnson had her
children for Thanksgiving,
with Nikki being “chief
cook and bottle washer”
for the day. Nikki was
assisted by Mikka and
Nevoy. The family had
an enjoyable meal and
good fellowship, too.
Patricia Blundell
celebrated Thanksgiving
three times. She had
dinner at the Blundell
family Thanksgiving held
at the home of Helen and
John Ballard. Others
attending this celebration
were Patricia’s daughters
Tina Love and husband

theirs. On Friday, Patricia
celebrated again with
chicken and dumplings.
Patricia also heard from
all her children this week.
George and Pearl Foster
celebrated Thanksgiving
at home with Gene,
Cindy, Daniel, Jennifer
and her friend. Also
attending were Wayne
and Laura. Pearl said
they had phone greetings
from two grandsons who
could not attend in person.
Wanda Helms said they
had “everybody” for
Thanksgiving dinner. I
think that includes all her
children and her brother.
Some of the group went
hunting on Thanksgiving
Day but were unsuccessful
then. However, Leah
killed her brst deer on
Saturday — and got two!!
Congratulations to her.
hunting two weeks
ago. They each got an
elk. Kipp’s daughter
got a deer last weekend
on the Long Ranch.
Ethan (Wicks) got a
13-point buck early
Wednesday morning.
The Lamar/Delta/Retired
Teachers met at Paris
Jr. College Monday for
a luncheon. The choir
from Bailey Middle
School performed. We
had a Holiday Treat
Tasting and Auction.
Robert and Sis Ballard’s
children had a 50th
Wedding Anniversary at
the College Street Church
of Christ in Paris for Robert
and Sis Saturday. They had
a large crowd to attend.
Billy Watson was the candle
lighter at the Methodist
Sunday, and our ushers
Wanda went shopping
on Black Friday and
got most, if not all, her
Christmas gifts. (Don’t
you hate people like that? I
haven’t even started, yet.)
Mable Wheat had
Thanksgiving with
her granddaughter in
Whitehouse. Hershal and
Bennie spent Wednesday
night with her and drove to
Whitehouse on Thursday
morning. There was a
large family group and
Mable got to see all four of
her grandchildren and two
of her great-grandchildren.
Mable was busy at the
drugstore on Friday and
Saturday. There was a
homecoming in Pecan Gap
and lots of folks had to stop
in for a milkshake and a
stroll down memory lane.
Stella Martin had
grandson Dwight and wife
Tara visit on Thursday
evening. Also, her niece
from Sherman called on
Sunday and visited about
30 minutes by phone.
Earl and Maggie Thomas
had a nice surprise visit
from Walter and Bobbie
Brown on Monday
afternoon. It was good
to see them. Earl and
Maggie had 11 guests
on Thanksgiving day for
a double celebration of
Thanksgiving and Lina’s
birthday. Earl and Maggie
cooked the turkey and
Ingram, the little Taylor
girls, Chaney Sonntag,
and several others. Stacy
Miller and one of her
friends from the First
Methodist in Paris, along
with Gary Regan presented
a skit Sunday morning. It
really was good. Linda
Baker was our Worship
Leader, and Lyn Phillips
had the Children’s Church
and Sunday School. She
talked about Clocks.
Don’t forget the Charleston
Christmas Parade, Saturday
Dec. 11 at 11 am. It will
start at the County Barn and
go all the way to the East
Delta Community Center
where we will have a
picnic lunch. Santa will be
visiting with the children.
Everyone is welcome
to come and join us.
Have a good week.
dressing and everyone
else brought sides to
complete the meal. Em
brought the most delicious
sweet potato pie she made
using Lynn Jarvis’ recipe.
(The sweet potatoes were
from Lynn and husband
Steve’s farm near Sulphur
Springs.) This will be
Tim and Em’s last trip to
the country for a while.
They are expecting a baby
girl, Violet Mercy, before
Christmas. Of course, Earl
and Maggie are excited
- the “greats” are grand!
Maggie said they had
a great day at church
Sunday. Youth pastor
Lonnie Sanders brought
the message in the absence
of pastor Larry. He used a
great illustration of what
we use to fill our lives. In
one large jar, he poured
a lot of sand (little stuff).
But then there was no
room for the big stuff.
But in the other jar, he brst
put the big “stuff’ like
God and family, which
left ample room for the
“little stuff’ to fill around
the spaces. If we get our
priorities in order, we have
room for everything in
our lives, don’t we? Bro.
Dion Nichols baptized
5 people on Sunday
morning, 2 adults and
3 teens and children.
A good day, indeed.
