Lots has been going on
in the East End. We have
been having lots to eat with
black-eyed peas and hog
jowl for the new year and
turkey and dressing for
Christmas and lots of visiting.
The Pacio Baptist Church
had their annual Christmas
party Saturday night,
December 11. Each person
took a Christmas ornament
and exchanged them. They
had finger foods and soft
drinks and coffee. Dec. 31
they had a New Year’s Watch
Service. On Tuesday, Jan.
22, they are having a Gospel
Concert with the Calvary
Singers and the Cherry
Family. This will start at 7
p.m. Everyone is welcome.
The East Delta Baptist
Church had their Christmas
Party and ornament
exchange Sunday evening
December 19. They had
their Christmas Program
Sunday night Dec. 19. On
Dec. 19, the ladies went to
the Fish Fry and had their
Secret Pal gift exchange.
On Dec. 22, the youth
went to Frisco shopping.
The Methodist Church
had their beautiful candle-
light service Dec. 24. We
had a large crowd attend
that service, so many they
couldn’t all be seated.
Sunday Billy Watson was the
candle lighter. The ushers
were Jackson Preas, Chris
France, Journi Ingram, and
Brittany Taylor. Ashley Preas
had Children’s Church. Chris
and Jordan France helped
Gary with Communion.
Jennie Pickering was the
Worship Leader. The Choir
sang the beautiful song,
“How Great Thou Art.” The
Methodist had a hayride
Wed. evening, December 20.
They went around Charleston
singing Christmas Carols.

Our condolences are for
the family of O.R. “Shorty”
Freeman of Ben Franklin.
Shorty passed away Monday,
Dec. 27 at the age of 98.

for the family of the Rev.
Chief Warden, 91 of Wolfe
City. Chief was the pastor
of the Charleston and
Cooper Methodist churches
at one time. Attending
those services from the
Charleston Church were
Linda Baker, Shirley Smith
and Mr. & Mrs. Richard Huie.
Also, our condolences
are for the family of Glen
Landers of Highway 24,
Cooper. Glen passed away
Dec. 23. Glen worked for
Precinct 1 of Charleston
Also, our condolences
are for the family of Skipper
Wright, 66, of Corsicana,
son of the late Cotton and
Rowena (Sneed) Wright.
Skipper passed away
January 1. Skipper spent
lots of time in Charleston
when he was young
visiting his grandparents,
Mr. & Mrs. Ed Sneed
and Dr. & Mrs. B. Wright.
Gloria Kirkpatrick had her
Christmas dinner Friday
evening, Christmas Eve. Her
children, grandchildren, and
great grandchildren were
there. Her grandchildren and
greatgrandchildren had letters
from Santa at Gloria’s house.
Katie Malone had her
Christmas dinner Christmas
eve. All the Malones met
at the Taylortown Volunteer
Fire Dept, in Taylortown Jan.
1 for a reunion and dinner.
David & Eilene Boggs
had their Christmas dinner
Christmas Eve night. Most
of their family attended.
The Smiths went to
Leland & Patsy Frase’s
in Tyler Christmas Day.

Dogettes Capture
a Pair of Victories
over Holiday Break

The Varsity Girls
basketball enjoyed their
holidays even more with
a pair of victories as they
improved to an overall
record of 12-8. First they
went on the road and faced
off against North Hopkins.
The Dogettes were off
to a great start playing
excellent defense allowing
only one point in the first
quarter, they led 10-1 at the
end of the first. Both teams
got their offenses rolling in
the second quarter, North
Hopkins outscored Cooper
20-19 but Cooper still led
at halftime 29-21. In the
third quarterNorth Hopkins
matched the Dogettes point
for point, Dogettes stayed
ahead and were up 45-38 at
the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter the
Dogettes put up 19 points
pulling away with the
victory 64-49. Tiffany
Roberts had a huge game
for the Dogettes recording
a double-double leading all
scores with 19 points with
11 rebounds and 4 steals.

pointers), Lanie Tatum 8 pts
6 assist, Donika Reynolds
7 pts, Rami Shaffer 6 pts,
Jacey Ingram 4 pts and

pts. The Dogettes took to
the road again and faced of
against Bonham where they
captured an easy victory
67-21. The Dogettes
outscored Bonham easily
every quarter. Rami
Shaffer led all scores with
16 pts, Tiffany Roberts had
15 pts and 12 rebounds,
Tate Anderson 9 pts and 3
steals, Jacey Ingram 7 pts,
Chaney Speight 6 pts and 5
assist, Donika Reynolds 6
pts and 6 rebounds, Leigh
Tatum 5 pts, Lanie Tatum
3 pts, haley Lynch 2 pts.
The Dogettes with play at
home against Prairiland on
Friday January 7, then at
Caddo Mills on Tuesday
January 11.

Jr. Afflatus met December
16 in the beautiful home
of Fredda Horton. Sixteen
members attended. Jan
Lewis’ class of Cooper
High School catered the
deliciousmealformembers.
Afterwards Lyna Jane
Bryant of Sulphur Springs
entertained the group with a
medley of Christmas songs
on her harp. She gave an
interesting history of how
she came to play the harp.
Afterwards the group sang
Silent Night with Mrs.
Bryant accompanying
them on the piano. The
club then reported on
members who are ill and
battling challenges in
their lives. An ornament
exchange followed before
the club repeated the club
litany and adjourned.
