Happy Thanksgiving
Local Churches
helping
residents during
Thanksgiving
This local turkey can't wait until Thanksgiving this year, he was given a reprieve and will live
to see another Thanksgiving
The first Thanksgiving was celebrated to
give thanks to God for helping the Pilgrims
of Plymouth Colony survive their first brutal
winter. The feast lasted three days providing
enough food for 53 pilgrims and 90 Native
Americans.
Through the years, Thanksgiving has
become a time of turkey, dressing, gravy and
pecan pie. It’s a time of family gatherings,
candy corn, pumpkins, over-eating, keeping
the family traditions, and building new
memories. Thanksgiving is a time to thank
God, family and friends for many things.
It is also about shopping and getting ready
for Christmas. However, you spend your
Thanksgiving, we at the Cooper Review
would like to wish you a very Happy
Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful,
grateful, and appreciative for the many
blessings, friendships, good health, love, and
material possessions that one has. Historically,
Thanksgiving was a religious holiday to give
thanks to God. Thanksgiving is also a time
to help others in need. Helping others is a
way of life for many Christians. Thru the
holiday season many churches reach out to the
community even more than usual. Churches
have delivered food baskets, prepared meals
and some will even serve the community
meals on Thanksgiving Day. It is great to see
how many of the churches in our community
are coming together to show love and support
for others.
New Life Baptist Student Ministries handed
out food baskets to about 20 families last
week. The baskets contained turkeys and
other foods. They were in charge of getting
the food items; putting them together and
passing out the baskets to the families that
needed them. According to the Youth Leader
Lonnie Sanders, “Our youth was just glad
to see the boxes go to so many people in the
community. They had the opportunity to be
God’s hands and feet, but even though others
received the food, we were the ones that were
truly blessed.”
The Crimson River Cowboy Church will
be giving out free jars of stew out to the
community. CROC’s Chuck Wagon Team
will be meeting Sunday evening to prepare
the stew.
The Ladies Sunday School Class at the First
Baptist Church of Cooper prepared a meal
and served the women and children of Models
of the Maker in Paris. Tuesday, November
16, nine ladies, prepared turkey, dressing,
mashed potatoes and other goodies to the
home. Children from Models of the Maker
read scripture before the meal. “It was a true
blessing to help them”, said Ruth Crow.
First United Methodist Church of Cooper
will hold their annual Thanksgiving Dinner
on Thanksgiving Day. Anyone who does not
have a place to go for Thanksgiving is invited
to attend. Turkey and dressing, gravy, salads,
vegetables, desserts, and hot rolls will be
served. The church has plans to serve around
250 people. The meal is provided free of
charge.

Cooper. She has two daughters,
Tara 4 months old and Savanna 4
years old. Savanna attends pre-k at
the elementary school. They live in
Enloe, Texas and attend the Calvary
Baptist Church. She was recently
diagnosed with Burkitts lymphoma.
- - at the time of her diagnosis she
was at a stage 4. She spent the most
of the month of October in Tyler
at ETMC receiving chemotherapy
treatments. She was able to come
home October 29^ to visit her
family and friends. She returned
November 1st to begin a new round
of treatments. While she was home
she was able to visit the elementary
campus with her family to meet
some of the students who earned the
highest amount of money raised for
them. The school district was very
involved as a family to help this
very young and caring family during
their time of need.
The Cooper Chapter of Family,
Career and Community Leaders
of America sponsored the Cancer
Awareness week. They planed the
many activities that everyone could
be involved in to make this week
successful. Students participated by
paying a dollar to wear a cap and the
staff paid $5.00 to wear jeans. There
was also a T-Shirt sale recognizing all
of the many cancers with their color
of ribbon. High school students
put pink ribbons on the vehicles at
the school for the awareness. There
was a grade level competition for
each of the campuses that lasted all
week. Each grade level competed to
see who could bring the most change
or money in the cans provided. The
elementary campus set a goal and
their reward was to be able to visit
with the family, give them the check
for the amount raised. They also
were able to have their picture made
with them for the newspaper. The
3r<^ Grade Class won the challenge
by raising atotal of $165.99. Fourth
grade was behind them by $4.00.
On Friday, October 29^ the Heath
family came to the school before
lunch. They met all of the 3rc* grade
students and had the opportunity to
visit with them. The Heath family
was so appreciative and thankful.
The personal visit made a wonderful
connection between our community
and our school.
