Cecil Thomas
Watson
Funeral services for
Cecil Thomas Watson,
87, of Sherman, TX were
held at 10:00 AM Tuesday,
August 14, 2007 at the
Waldo Funeral Home Chapel.
Graveside services followed
at Oak Lawn Cemetery in
Cooper with Rev. Wayne
Hutchins and Rev. James D.
“Bud” Watson officiating.
Mr. Watson passed
away on Saturday, August
11, 2007 at the Homestead
Nursing Home of Sherman.
He was born on June 16,
1920 in Delta County Texas,
the son of Elic Pink and Mary
Etta (Shoemaker) Watson.
Cecil married Annie Louise
Burnett on December 2, 1939
in Cooper. He was a member
of the Peace Tabernacle church
in Trenton, the Carpenters
Union Local # 429 and he was
a former Pastor of the United
Pentecostal Church in Savoy
and White wright, Texas.
Mr. Watson is survived by
his wife Annie Louise Watson
of Sherman, daughter Joyce
Ullah and husband Sana of
Sherman, daughter Annette
Stoffregen and husband
Richard of Houston, son
James Watson and wife Lynn
of Hurst, daughter Clara Ice
of Denison, brother James
D. “Bud” Watson of Paris,
Grandsons, Colin Bell, Wesley
Warden, Don Herpeche and
wife Amy and Levi “Ullah”
Commons. He is also survived
by his granddaughters,
Heather Bell Martin, Melissa
Parks and husband, Brandon;
Amy Rogers and husband
Kyle; Karen Starnes and
husband Joey, LaSandra
Nickson and husband Brad;
Theresa Ritchey and husband
Rusty; great grandsons, Joey
Herpeche, Brett Parks, Ethan
Rogers, Evan Rogers, Clive
Starnes, Chris Price and
wife Laura, Zachary Ritchie;
and great granddaughters,
Natalie Parks, Madison
Rogers and Brittany Ritchie.
Cecil was preceded
in death by his parents,
seven brothers and sisters.

Bailey Thorton 1st runner up
Bailey Thornton, 3rd Ken Thornton of Commerce,
grader at Cooper Elementary, and Tommy and the late Peggy
was 1st Runner-up in the McLeod of Mississippi.
Texas Student of the Year
competition held July 20-22
in Houston. Bailey completed
the weekend by winning 8
medals and 3 ribbons. She
won the following overall
awards in her age group:

Outstanding Community
Involvement, Outstanding
Development of Personal
Abilities, as well as tying
for Outstanding Academic
Achievement. Bailey is
the daughter of Lance and
Stephanie Thornton and the
granddaughter of Pam Collard
of Cooper, Trish and the late
Lauren Nance Graduates
Lauren Elizabeth
Nance, daughter of Tim and
Michelle Strong and Mickey
Nance, and granddaughter of
Larry and Kaywin Conley,
graduated Cum Laude from
Mount Saint Mary Academy
in Watchung, New Jersey
with a 4.1 GPA. Lauren was
in the National Honor Society
her Junior and Senior year.
She was given the Renssalear
Medal for excellence in math
& science her junior year. Her
senior year she was awarded
the ARC Angels Among Us
award for APCalculus and
APPhysics. She was given a
Society of Women Engineers
Award for excellence in math
& science for three years.
She was a varsity swimmer
for four years and a captain
for one. She was given a four-
year engineering scholarship
to Renssalear Polytechnic
Institute, but chose to go to
Virginia Tech where she will
be majoring in engineering.
