Dogettes and Bulldogs face a
week of wins and losses
Last week the Cooper Dogettes Softball
played three district games. The first
game was on Tuesday against Grand
Saline at home. Grand Saline jumped
ahead early scoring one run in the first
inning. The Dogettes had a big 2nd
inning and scored four runs. They then
added a fifth run early in the third inning.
Grand Saline made a great run a the end
scoring two runs in the 5th inning and
one run in the 6th but Cooper held them
off and won 4-5. Their second game
last week was a make up game against
Winnsboro on Thursday didn’t go so well
for the Dogettes. Winnsboro scored six
runs in the 3rd inning, three runs in the
4th inning, and two more between the 6th
and 7th innings. The Dogettes struggled
the whole game but started to make a
come back in the 6th inning scoring
three runs, and in the 7th inning scoring
4 runs. However it wasn’t enough and
they lost 8-11. The Dogettes brought it
back home against Como-Pickton and
ended the week on a good note pulling
out a victory 5-1. The Dogettes scored
three early runs in the 1st inning and two
more in the 5th. Como-Pickton only
had 4 hits in the game. The Dogettes
are now 4-4 in district. The Varsity
Baseball Boys also played 3 games last
week as well but we not quiet as lucky
as the girls. Winnsboro ran away with
the game on Monday and the Bulldogs
lost 11-3. Cooper barely edged out Grand
Saline 7-6 on Tuesday. The game went
into extra innings, after having a huge
comeback in the 6th inning down by four
runs, and the Bulldogs finally won in the
bottom of the 9th off a wild throw to third
allowing a run to score easily. On Friday
the Bulldogs played a game full of errors
and missed a lot of routine ground balls
and pop ups. They lost to Como-Pickton
11-7 in which Como scored 10 unearned
runs. The varsity boys are also 4-4 in
district and are tied for 3rd place. The
J. V. Boys Baseball team played last week
as well and won easily over Wolf-City
14-3.
