Malone-Jopes-Phipps Reunion
There have been lots of things going on
around us for the 4th of july. Paris had one
of the best parades ever Saturday. Patsy Davis
led the parade as the Grand Marshall. She sure
looked food in the beautiful antique car. Just
before the parade started two vintage planes
streaked across the sky. They Boy Scouts of
America led out next, followed by antiques
cars and pickups. Kids on bicycles followed,
then dancers, fire trucks, an antique American
Red Cross ambulance, floats of all kinds,
the Paris High School marching band, Army
jeeps, antique tractors, and new tractors, new
pickups, antique World War II equipment,
politicians, Army tanks, motor cycles, John
Deere tractors and equipment, Case tractors,
and equipment, horses, horse drawn trailers,
some filled with hay and people, a man riding
a long-horn steer, more floats, and lots of
other things. Jalie Swaim was on one float.
Justin Graves was riding on one float. It was a
wonderful parade.
Then Saturday afternoon Enloe had a
wonderful parade also. The parade made two
trips around the parade route. Ted Carrington,
the Grand Marshall, led the parade in a
new white Thunderbird. Royce Slough as
Elvis followed. Vay Gillean, Miss 4th of
July followed riding on a golf cart. Betty
Blagburn as Miss Firecracker was riding in a
pickup driven by Jackie Douglas and helped
by Nancy Blount. Several antique cars and
tractors followed. Robert Douglas pulled a
large trailer filled with little children. Horses
came last followed by Roy Lee Jackson on his
beautiful white horse. It was a great parade
also. David and Sharron Nabors rode in both
parades. Freda Smart and Pauline Greenwood
rode in the Enloe Parade.
Saturday evening we went to Paris to see the
beautiful fire works that started at 9:15. We sat
on the jogging track and had a perfect view. It
was spectacular.
Sunday, we had the Kensing Homecoming
at the East End Delta Community Center. We
had a very nice homecoming with plenty to
eat. Twenty-five attended that homecoming.
Several came from the East End, Don and
Shirley Smith, Katie Malone, Don and
Margaret Woodard, and Buddy Smith; from
the Paris area were David and Sharron
Nabors, Pauline Greenwood, Dreda Smart,
Kay Sanders, Martha Abbott, Jo Gordon,
Frank and Stacy Miller, Katherine Sugg, and
Justin Prazak; from Cooper, Billy McFarland
and Linda Goforth; John and Shirley Stephens
from Arlington; and Sam and Mary Lou
Gibson from Grand Prairie.
The Jackson had their reunion at the East
Delta Community Center two weeks ago.
They had a large crowd.
The Jordans and Goforths had their reunion at
the Cooper Lake two weeks ago. They had a
large crowd also.
The East Delta Baptist Church had a cookout
Sunday afternoon.
The Delta County 9 and 10 year-old boy’s
baseball team is going to state at Mt. Pleasant.
Trenton Jones, Braden Toon, Easton Richey,
and Rylan Stager are playing for that team.
We are proud of those boys!
Jalie Swaim was in Dallas part of last week
for the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader Camp.
She got to watch the cheerleaders and get on
the field with them. She told me she didn’t get
to see the Cowboys. Now she wants to go see
a Cowboy game.
Earnest and Bonnie (Nabors) Spivey of
Garland visited her mother, Susie Nabors last
week.
Katie Malone’s family had a picnic at the
Malone Lake Sunday afternoon. They had a
cookout and shot fire works.
Birthdays: Ryan Murray, DeeAnn Hamner,
and Carolyn Worden 7/12; Madeline Ingram,
Taylor Ingram, and Jacey Ingram 7/14; David
Nabors 7/15; and Jason Ingram and Dixie
Black 7/17. Happy birthday, folks!
Have a good week!
Klondike News
_By John dr Elizabeth Hopkins_
The Fourth of July was well celebrated in
Klondike this year. People were out attending
parades, having backyard barbecues, watching
fireworks and there was at least two birthdays!
The Klondike Volunteer Fire Department
hosted their annual picnic at the Church at
Klondike on Sunday afternoon. They served
hot dogs and hamburgers as their fundraiser
this year. About 8:00 pm the Travis Lee Band
from St. Louis, MO, took the stage in concert.
(They also had charge of the morning services
at the Church at Klondike. The fireworks
show started after the concert to conclude the
night’s festivities.
Ronnie and Jonette Almon, Eddie and Olinda
Wheeler, Phil, Gitte and Sonja Stivers, Rick
and Vickie Murray continued their annual
tradition of going to Enloe for the Fourth of
July parade there. Participating in the parade
this year were Conlee Rae Murray driving her
four-wheeler, Hillary Murray driving her “50”
John Deere tractor, and Phil Stivers driving
his “H” John Deere. After the parade Ronnie,
Jonette, Eddie, Olinda and Conlee went to
Roxton for their fireworks show. Everyone
had a good time.
Phillip and Allie Stone had lots of visitors
on the Fourth. Louise Stone came for their
regular family Bible study and a long visit.
Three grandchildren from the Maude area
also visited on Sunday. Allie’s brother Estel
Hoskinson visited from Ladonia on Saturday
night.
Patricia Blundell and Cassie Gunn were
cooking Fourth of July dinner for the family
on Sunday. Also there were Cassie’s daughter
Brionna and grandson Braden. Earlier in the
week, Patricia and Billy Martin attended the
memorial service for Bill Mills at the home of
Margie Mills. There were lots of family present
for the memorial. (Let’s continue to remember
this family in prayer.) Patricia heard from her
children this week, also.
Wanda Helms said her family had a fish fry
on Sunday to celebrate the Fourth. They were
planning to go to Brad’s in Pecan Gap (I think)
after church where Nash was going to set off
fireworks for the group. Wanda and Louise
went to Paris on Friday for a concert, which
was very good.
Stella Martin had grandson Dwight visit her
on Saturday. On Friday, she went to Lorene’s
home for a visit and a few hours of working
a puzzle. Travis, Tanner and Tyler came on
Saturday for a game of dominoes.
George and Pearl Foster went out for lunch on
Sunday. Later, Pearl’s sister Anna and brother-
in-law Bill came for a Sunday afternoon visit.
Larry George had his children for the
weekend. They popped firecrackers and rode
four-wheelers on Sunday afternoon. They had
a birthday cake to celebrate the dual birthdays
of Larry and his dad. They planned to attend
the fireworks at the Church at Klondike later
in the evening.
Flowers from paradise
Dave Grider of Prairie Rose Flower Shop surprised Ethel Dugan with flowers from Ed and
Helen Black from Paradise, Texas for her 99th birthday, July 2, 2010. Mrs. Dugan was also
given a special ribbon rose from Prairie Rose.
