What a beautiful day we are
having. The sun is shining,
and it is just beautiful outside.
Maybe the weather will stay
like this for a few days.
Sunday afternoon Katie
Malone and Shirley Smith
went to Paris Community
Theater to see the play “The
Music Man” directed by Ray
Karrer, a retired Paris Jr.
College Drama Director. It
was a wonderful play. There
were lots of people in the
play. Carol Anderson from
Lake Creek was in it. Lewis
was working behind the
scenes. He came out to see us
before the play started. Gina
Ervin was in it. I used to teach
with her. Dalen Hobbs from
Cooper was in it, and was
Jerry Jarrell. We saw several
people from Delta County at
the play, Betty Thompson,
Wand Lawler, and Sadie
Emerson and others.
It took us a long time to get
home from the play because
Highway 19/24 was closed.
We had to get off and go
down to the old Dallas
Highway and come home
that way. Lots of police and
other officers and volunteer
Fire Departments were out
working keeping people off
Highway 19/24. We heard it
was hostage situation. We saw
Travis Skidmore and Richard
Duncan and several other
men from the Broadway and
Beardstown F ire Departments
out directing traffic. Harold
and Robert Douglas and
Freddy Finch from the Enloe
VFD were there. We stopped
and talked to them. Police
cars and fire trucks were
everywhere.
Monday, several ladies
attended the Family and
Consumer Service Extension
Club meeting in the Delta
County Civic Center in
Cooper. Sheree Williams,
Health Initiative Community
Manager of the American
Cancer Society from
Texarkana was our guest
speaker, Twonette Gessman,
president of the Delta County
Unit of the American Cancer
Society, introduced her. It was
a very informative program.
The Delta County Unit of
the American Cancer Society
will be having their stew/
chili cook-off and auction
Saturday, February 20, at the
Delta County Civic Center.
Try to be there that day.
The Charleston United
Methodist Church and the East
Delta Baptist Church both
had covered-dish luncheons
Sunday. Lots of people
attended those dinners.
At the Methodist Sunday, Billy
Watson had the children’s
sermon and Jennie Pickering
taught the children’s Sunday
school. Lynne Long read
the scriptures and led the
Responsive Reading.
The East End Cemetery
Association is having a
meeting Saturday, February
13, right after breakfast, about
8:30. Everyone is welcome.
Jalie Swaim’s third grade
class at Chisum, along with all
the other third grade classes
in Lamar County, received
dictionaries from the Paris
Rotary Club last week. It is
the hope of the Rotary Club to
hand out dictionaries to every
third grader in America, in a
nation-wide project called
“The Dictionary Project.”
Patsy Davis, a retired history
teacher from Paris, was the
guest of the Noon Study Club
at Paris Jr. College last week.
She gave a very interesting
talk on the Lamar County
Historical Museum, located
on West Kaufman Street,
adjacent to Heritage Hall and
across the parking lot from
Lamar County Chamber of
Commerce. If you haven’t
toured that wonderful
museum, you need to tour it.

John and I attended a political
fund-raiser on Saturday night
at the West Delta Community
Center. Early voting begins
in two weeks and Election
Day in Texas will be March 2,
2010. (By the way, food at the
rally was wonderful - thanks,
ladies!)
Nelma Dodd attended a Chili
and Stew supper fund raiser
at her church on Saturday
evening. The Delta County
musical group Pure Hearts
provided entertainment with
old-time gospel music.
Visitors to the Stone home
this week included Glen
and Louise Stone one night.
Louise came again on Sunday
afternoon. Sharon Jordan also
visited on Sunday.
Patricia Blundell and Billy
Martin went to Flint, TX
where they took a tour of The
Villages there. On the way
home they stopped in Canton
to see old cars and quilts. They
had supper at the Dairy Palace
which claims to have the best
hamburger around. Patricia
had an overnight guest Friday.
Brionna Davis also stayed
most of the day on Saturday.
Patricia also heard from all
her children this weekend.
Pearl Foster was busy
hemming some slacks for
granddaughter Jennifer who
was home from College
Station for the weekend.
Earl and Maggie Thomas
have enjoyed volunteering
at Birchwood Manor for the
past five years. While there
they have learned that one
highlight of the residents with
mobility is the outing each
month to Klondike Church.
The Senior Adult class at New
Life Baptist Church wanted to
give residents a second outing
each month as well as a home
cooked meal. They initiated
this ministry on January 26
with 12 residents and Cassie
and Richard attending. After
lunch, pastor Larry Maynard
gave a mini message from
Psalms 23. The class teacher
John Cleveland played his
guitar and led the residents
in a joy-filled sing-along. A
great time was had by all.

1 I 'he only way we can stop the out of control spending in
JL Washington and get our economy back on track is to
send fresh, energetic leaders to Congress. That’s why Steve
Clark is running for Congress.
In Congress, Republican Steve Clark will:
• Oppose earmarks
• Secure our borders
• Defend our 2nd Amendment rights
• Fight government'run healthcare
• Support term limits to stop career politicians

losina touch with what we need
Having been in Washington for 30 years, Congressman Ralph
Hall has become just another big'Spending Republican,

• Consistently sponsoring earmarks in Congress, including over
$108,000,000 in the 2008'2009 budget year alone1
• Collecting two salaries on the taxpayer dime: over $65,000
in pension funds from Texas for being a politician and another
$174,000 as a Member of Congress2
• Adding in a $142,500 earmark for a museum to Obama’s
