There has been a lot going
on around here. The weather
has been really hot. We have
been getting some little
showers around.
The East End Delta
Cemetery Association and all
interested parties are meeting
Saturday morning, August 14,
right after breakfast, about
8 o’clock, at the East Delta
Community Center to discuss
the Holiness Tabernacle,
“The Shed,” and the Holiness
Church to decided what we
are going to do about them
in the way of cleaning them
up and about the Historical
Marker we are planning to
get for them and for the old
college that was across the
road. The Shed was built in
1906. It is really looking bad
since it fell to the ground. The
Church is looking bad also,
since someone went into it
and destroyed the inside and
knocked out the windows and
knocked down the doors. A
person has offered to donate
the marker.
I had a nice talk with a
cousin, Roberta DuPont, of
Marrero, LA, Friday. She is
not feeling too good.
I had a nice talk with Joe
Daniels of Cedar Creek
Lake, Friday also. He was
feeling pretty good. Joe’s son
Ronnie teaches in Mesquite,
as does his grand daughter.
She has taught three years.
Joe graduated from East Delta
School and taught at East
Delta and Cooper before he
went to Mesquite to teach. He
is retired now.
The lunch at the Delta
County Library Wednesday
was delicious, as always.
The ladies did an outstanding
job with that baked potato
luncheon. The library is
desperately in need of money.
The luncheons are the way
of making money to keep the
library running. Please attend
these luncheons.
The Pictorial History Books
are due out in November.
They have been sent to the
publishers. If you didn’t get
our pictures to the library,
maybe there will be a second
book, and you can get them in
it. We will just have to wait
and see how this on turns out
and how well they sell.
Birthdays: Michael Thacker
and Sonny Mills 8/15; Julie
Kay Swaim and Karen Hester
8/16; Eddie Barker 8/17;
Morgan Baker 8/18; and
Masie Hester 8/21. Happy
Birthday, folks!
Our condolences are for
the family of C. R. Williams
of Bogata. C. R. passed away
Saturday, July 31, at his
residence. C. R. used to shoe
our horses. He always did a
good job.
The fundraiser for Peggy
Sweat Saturday in the Old City
Park in Cooper was a success,
even though it was very hot.
There were lots of people there
and the food, bar-b-cue and all
the trimmings were delicious.
Hunter Preas purchased a
delicious strawberry cake. I
talked with Peggy. She said
that she is feeling better.
Jennie Pickering is out of
the hospital and feeling better.
She was at Church Sunday.
The Delta United Methodist
Women met Thursday evening
at the Charleston United
Methodist Church Fellowship
Hall. Dolores Jackson had the
program.
Roy Lee and Dolores
Jackson are having a 50th
Wedding Anniversary Sunday,
August 15 at the East Delta
Community Center from 2
p.m. to 4 p.m.
Katie Malone, her daughters
and grand children were
shopping in Dallas one day
last week getting ready for
school.
I attended a book signing
in Paris Saturday afternoon.
Ken Swinford of Mt. Vernon,
a retired Vo. Ag. Teacher
wrote “In This Earth and
In Heaven.” I have started
reading the book. It is a very
good book.
I talked with Joe and Helen
Smith of Bishop Saturday.
Joe had just gotten out of
the hospital. He is feeling a
little better. They wanted to
know all about the Charleston
Homecoming since they
weren’t able to come this
year.
I saw Betty Jane Oats Roddy
in Paris Friday shopping. She
didn’t make it to the Charleston
Homecoming this year. She
said that she just forgot it. She
said that Tim and Betty Oliver
go to Blossom to eat with her
often at a wonderful restaurant
there.
The Cellums, Billy and
Hazel, went back to the Rio
Grande Valley last Sunday
right after homecoming.
I went to Paris to Bywaters
Park Saturday evening to see
“The Complete Works of Wllm
Shkspir (Abridged)” Saturday
evening. It was wonderful,

Rickey and Alma Click and
their little grand child were in
a bad wreck. Ricky had to be
airlifted to Dallas. They are
out of the hospital now and
doing better.
Dillion Worden rode a bull
Saturday evening at the Paris
Rodeo. He did a good job.
David and Sharron Nabors

Jack and Julia Nabors and

for Sunday lunch. Also
attending the lunch were Jill

Susie Nabors of Charleston,
Freda Smart and Pauline
Greenwood of Paris.
We had a large crowd
at the Methodist Sunday.
Gary baptized the Stegall
baby, Mason Scott Stegall,
Shawn and Amy’s baby.
His grandparents, great
grandparents, aunts and
uncles were there. He is a
beautiful baby. His beautiful
little cousin who is jus the
same age was there, and also
his beautiful little girl cousin
who is just a little older was
there.
Ginna Murray was born
last Wednesday, August 4.
Her parents are Judd and Jill
Murray and her big brother is
Jake Murray.
Ronny Morgan helped
Gary Sunday by reading
the Scripture, leading the
Responsive Verses and leading
the singing. Lynne Long had
the Children’s Church and
Children’s Sunday School.
The Choir did a great job
singing “I Surrender All.”
Billy Watson and Tommy
Shane Ingram were the candle
lighters and Brazos Phillips
and Madison Murray were
the ushers. We are having
a church luncheon Sunday,
August 29, sandwiches and
salads. Everyone is invited.
Glen Vickers will preach
Sunday and Dustin Kennemer
will preach the next Sunday.
Dustin Kennemer told about
the Special Olympics in
Greenville last week L3

Have a good week!
