ment of individual students and the job of making
music, thus being worthy of the TBA Exemplary
Band Award.
“The CHS Band is truly one of the most exem-
plary high school band programs in Texas,” TBA
President Alfredo Velez and TBA Executive Direc-
tor Michael Brashear said. “The Texas Bandmasters
Association is pleased and proud to honor the Can-
ton High School Band and directors with the 2013
TBA Exemplary High School Band Award. We cel-
ebrate your success and it is my wish that you have a
most successful finish to your school year. Keep up
the great work.”

board that with the sales tax figures being 7.64 per-
cent higher than this year compared to the same time
last year, “This is the largest sales tax rebate we have
received ever in the city’s history for as far back as
we can find.”

February 11 and called meetings on February 18 and
February 22.

Canton Educational Foundation (CEF) presented the Canton ISD Board of Trustees funds raised in
the amount of $32,000.88, during Monday night’s CISD board meeting. Those funds will be used to
issue grants, to teachers who apply, in order to use the money to purchase items for their classroom
to further educate their students. Those making the presentation to CISD Board President Kenneth

$32K Check To School District

The Canton ISD board
of trustees was presented
a check in the amount of
$32,000.88, from the
Canton Educational
Foundation, during Mon-
day night’s meeting.
The funds came from
fundraisers and donations
to the organization whose
purpose is to “solicit, man-
age and distribute funds
that will be used to en-
hance the educational ex-
perience of the students in
Canton ISD.”
Canton ISD Board
President Kenneth Pruitt
expressed his apprecia-
tion to the Canton Edu-
cational Foundation
board and their board
president, Ryan Randall,
for their continued efforts
and support in making the
program a success and
giving back to the school
district.

Assessments of Aca-
demic Readiness) scores
for the district.
At the intermediate
school, the district was 2
percent below the state
average, and the junior
high and high school were
1 percent below the state
average.
“These scores are out-
standing,” Canton ISD
Superintendent Jay Tullos
said. “We are very proud,
and it also shows that we
are ahead of the curve.”
-approved contract ex-
tensions for teachers,
coaches/teachers, coun-
selors, nurse and LVN.
-heard from Canton In-
termediate School Princi-
pal Marsha Robison who
introduced fourth graders
Nicklas Fenner and
Eliana Fabbri.
Robison described
Fenner, son of Charles
and Amy Fenner, as “ath-
letic” and “good hearted.”
Eliana Fabbri, daughter
of Gerald and Elaine
Fabbri, was described as
“kind, sweet and gener-
ous” greeting her teachers
with a smile every day.
Fenner gave the invo-
cation and Fabbri lead the
Pledge of Allegiance.
-approved the consent
agenda which included
minutes from the regular
meeting on February 18,
and financial reports for
the month.
It also included autho-
rizing Tullos to hire con-
tract personnel from
March 2013 through Sep-
tember 2013.
Also, the board autho-
rized Tullos to purchase
electricity and choose a
broker to consult on Can-
ton ISD’s behalf, and to
authorize Texas Bank &
Trust to use the Canton
High School logo for the
Visa Check Card pro-
gram.
-approved the adoption
of all textbooks adopted
by the state, which is a
standard policy of the dis-
trict.
-ordered the appoint-
ment of election judges
and alternates.
The election judge ap-
pointed will be Glenn
Hillin and the alternate
judge will be Curtis
Barker.
-approved extending
the depository contract for
the district bank deposi-
tory.
The current contract is
with American National
Bank. All voted in favor
with the exception of
board member Mike
Malouf who abstained
and board vice president
Charles Beasley who
was not in attendance.
