LOCAL YOUTH LANDS MYSTERY CALF AT HOUSTON
SHOW
Not only did Brett Hoff of Archer City catch a calf during the calf
scramble at the February 20,1998, evening performance of the
1998 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, but it was the "mys-
tery calf" to boot.
Show officials randomly select the mystery calf during each
rodeo performance. By catching this special animal, Brett wins
three round-trip tickets donated by Continental Airlines good for
travel anywhere in the continental United States, Canada or
Mexico. In addition, Brett, a student at Archer City High School,
will receive a $1,000 calf purchase certificate donated by Kennedy
Coating Inspection Services to be used for the purchase of a
registered beef or dairy heifer.
Next year, Brett will return to the Houston Show armed with
detailed records and a well-groomed heifer to compete in a
special livestock show competition for additional prize money
and awards. Keith Klement, Brett's County Extension Agent will
supervise the project.
Pictured left to right are Keith Klement, Co. Extension Agent;

I NEWS AND NOTES I
Guarding Against
Junk E-Mail
(NAPS)—Gone are the days
when e-mail was a place you could
count on finding only relevant
mail. Now, Internet users—both
at home and in the workplace—
are barraged with increasing
amounts of “spam,” or junk e-
mail.
For those who have had e-mail
addresses sold to commercial e-
mail lists, spam is an inconve-
nience that steals precious time,
infringes on individual privacy,
takes up mailbox and disk stor-
age space and puts users at risk
of falling victim to costly fraudu-
lent solicitations.
Fortunately, with the help of a
technical guardian, Internet mail
users can now protect themselves
against unwanted e-mail solicita-
tions. An easy-to-use and afford-
able software product automati-
cally identifies and blocks spam.
Using more than 400 rules, the
software immediately identifies
spam, reviewing both the content
and the header of each e-mail.
Unique “artificial intelligence”
technology helps the program
learn from its users what is
deemed junk mail.
Called MailJail from Omron
Advanced Systems, Inc., it works
as an add-on with Microsoft
Outlook, Eudora Light, Eudora
Pro. version 3.0.5 and greater,
and supports Microsoft Windows
95 and Windows NT.

jail.com.
