Mrs. Gallagher
Honored at Party
Mrs. C. C. Gallagher was
honored Tuesday night with a
surprise birthday party in the
home of Mrs. Ruth Silliman, 206
South Ash Street. Mrs. Arnold
Evans was co-hostesses.
Guest list included a few close
friends of Mrs. Gallagher. Birth-
day cake was served and the time
was spent in a social hour and
inspection of birthday gifts.
Other present were Mrs. G. D.
Pipkin, Mrs. Fred Skaggs, Mrs.
Ray Holder, Mrs. A. K. Bailey,
Mrs. Rayford Shaver and Mrs.
Ed Spangler.
Springtime delight: add a small

Etheredge Earns
H-S Cadet Award
Richard Etheredge, son of Mr.
and Mrs. W. L. Etheredge, 816

Superior C adet award presented
by the Reserve Officers Train-
ing Corps at Hardin - Simmons

Jefferson Meadows Patterson,
University of Texas student from
Kermit, has been elected to Alpha
Chi Sigma, national professional
chemistry fraternity.
Patterson, a sophomore major-
ing in chemistry, is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Patterson,
516 South Avenue C.

A damage suit for $25,750
has been filed against C. M.
Spruill and Spruill’s Food Store
in 109th District Court by Lovera
Wyles and her husband, George
A. Wyles.
The suit contends Mrs. Wyles
fell on the cement steps in front
of the grocery store last Sep-
tember and suffered injuries.

Wink Junior
High to Give
Spring Concert
WINK —Annual Spring Concert
by Wink Junior High School is to
be presented Friday night in the
high school auditorium Deginning
at 8 o’clock. „
Mrs. Mildred McCollum is di-
rector and Mrs. Phyllis Emmer
will serve as accompanist.
A varied program, including
classical and popular numbers,
has been arranged. The public is
invited to attend.

FURNITURE GOLD MINE
HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) -
After Cynthia Rayl, 9, found a
penny in an upholstered chair she
set off on a hunt through the
living room furniture and found a
kiddy-sized gold mine.
When she finished she had
$5.08 in coins which over many
years had slipped from adult
pockets into.crevices of the fur-
niture.

Gives Program
Mrs. Boyd Slaughter was in
charge of the program when mem-
bers of Lutheran Womans Mis-
sionary League, Zion Lutheran
Church, met in regular session.
Her subject was Can Women Be
Ministers?
Opening prayer and scripture
were given by Mrs. Joe Ethridge
and the group recited the LWML
pledge.
Roll call was answered by
naming a Miracle of Christ.
Plans for a coming convention,
to be held June 17-19 in Lincoln
Hotel, Odessa, were discussed.
Plans also were formulated for
the annual Vacation Bible school.
A new bookcase, a gift from the
league, was presented to the
church.
Meeting closed with The Lord’s
Prayer.
Mrs. John Stuart was hostess
and others present were Mrs.
Charles Sanders, Mrs. AlvinMa-
tax, Mrs. John Pierce, Mrs.
Gene Choate and a visitor, Mrs.
Berry Wilkins.
Ruth Class
Has Kiddie Party
Members of Ruth Class, Grace
Temple Baptist Church, met re-
cently for a Kiddie Party. Games
were played and baby pictures
of class members were shown and
Identified.
Devotional was about children
in Bible times and how they were
treated. Mrs. Warner Pyle was in
charge of the devotional. Mrs.
Gerald Thomas led in prayer for
all children of the world.
Secret Pal gifts were ex-
changed.
Centerpiece for the refresh-
ment table was a May Pole with
toy babies holding ribbons. Fa-
vors were decorated with baby
dolls.
Hostesses were Mrs. Dale
Phelps, Mrs. R. L. Ridenour,
Mrs. Arthur Barnett and Mrs.
Royce LaLonde.

Room.

Mrs. Ed Meaders of Monahans.
Third place went to Ed Meaders
and Marion Meaders of Mona-
hans.
Holding fourth place were Mrs.
Bill Jolley and Mrs. Jim Jenkins,
both of Kermit.
Fischer Promoted
At Southwest Texas
SAN MARCOS — Craig V.
Fischer, freshman cadet in the
AFROTC program at Southwest
Texas State College, was recently
promoted to the rank of Cadet
Airman Second Class. Fischer
is majoring in elementary edu-
cation.
Fischer, a graduate of Kermit
High School, is the son of Mr.
