PAGING THE LADIES
Garden Club
Pilgrimage
Starts April 3
Something new is in store lor.
Hondoans next April when the
Hondo Garden Club will sponsor
a patio and garden pilgrimage.
Making plans for the event are
Mrs. J. S. MacManus, Mrs. Paul
Pope and Mrs. Francis Richter,
members of the program com-
mittee of the garden club. Sun-
day, April 3, has been set as the
day of the pilgrimage which will
feature a tour of the yards of
five Hondo couples.
The first garden to be shown
is that of Mr. ,and Mrs. Hugh
Meyer, followed by those of the
MacManuses, the F. D. Garri-
sons, the Paul Bybees and the
Claude Gilliams.
This tour is open to the public
and although no admission charge
will be made, visitors may make
a free will offering, the proceeds
to help beautify our city. The
garden club will not sponsor a
flower show this year.

On Day Lilies
Mrs. Fred Horner of Uvalde,
a member o f the nationally
known Hemerocallis Society,
spoke Friday afternoon, Feb. 11,
on the topic of day lilies and ir-

Hondo Garden Club.
A real “dirt gardener,” Mrs.
Homer had much practical in-
formation for the membership
concerning the planting and care
of these two plants.
The meeting was held in the
home of Mrs. Riggs Shepperd,
with Mrs. S. W. T. Lanham.
Mrs. Everett B. Vincent, chair-
man of the highway beautifica-
tion committee, reported that the
garden club would cooperate with
other civic organizations and have
a cleanup drive in March. She
also revealed that a Blue Star
Memorial highway marker is to
be placed in Hondo and that her
committee has recommended that
it be placed on one of the club’s
landscaped highway parks.

ed at the lace covered table,
which held a centerpiece of deep-
sink asters and daisies, by Mrs.
Lloyd Hermes, Misses Nell Ren-
ken, Shirley Braden, and Mary
Ann Heiligman.
Miss Margie Gordes presided

Lodge Meets
The Charlotte Lodge 118 had
its monthly meeting Feb. 2 with
a good attendance, at the home
of Sister Mary Braden, and her
daughter, Afina Burke.
All officers who were not pres-
ent at the recent installation at
Quihi were initiated. At the soc-
ial hour the following prizes were
awarded by the hostess: first,
Mrs. Della Tondre; second, Mrs.
E. L. Bred; consolation, Mrs.
Daisy Rieber ,and traveling, Mrs.
Ella Kellog. A lunch of chicken
sandwiches, cookies and coffee
was served.

ville, Kentucky and upon their re-
turn will reside in San Antonio.

Methodists
A musical program will be
presented at the Simpson Chapel
Methodist Church, 15th St. at
Ave. O, by the Benson-Hines
Choralaires at 3:30 p. m. Sun-
day, Feb. 20.
These singers are a group of
adults, trained and directed by
two music instructors of Doug-
lass Jupior School in the San An-
tonio public school system. They
have been presented from time
to time by various organizations.
The public is invited. There
will be no paid admission.'The
Rev. E. M. Mooney is pastor.

M&M Johnny Walker were call-
ed to Huntsville on Feb. 9, to the
bedside of his father, Bill Walk-
er, who is ill with pneumonia.
After his father showed some
improvement, M&M Walker re-
turned to Hondo but were call-
ed back this weekend as his fath-
er is very ill again.
