The marriage of Miss Mary
Alice Timmerman of Houston,
formerly of Hondo and San An-
tonio, and Mr. David Sam Bain
of Houston, was sole mnized by
the Reverend Calvin C. Froeh-
ner on August 27, 1966 in an
early evening ceremony in the
Alamo Heights Methodist
Church, San Antonio.
Parents of the couple are Mr.
and Mrs. August Timmer man
of Hondo and Mrs. Sam Bain
and the late Mr. Bain of Center-
ville.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a street-
length white lace dress and veil
and she car ried a bouquet of
white roses and orchids. The
bride's mother wore an avacado
green silk linen dress with co-
bal t blue accessohes and a

white orchid.
The mother of the groom
wore a blue crepe dress with
matching shoes, white accesso-
ries and a white orchid.

Class Gives
Trophy Case
A new trophy case to display
sports trophies won by the Owls
was presented to Hondo High
School last week. It is a gift
from the Class of 1966, in mem
ory of three of their class mates
who would have been seniors
this year.
To be named in a small
metal plaque attached to the
case are the late Stephan Mil-
ler, Gary Clements, and Betty
Jean Wiemers. Parents of the
three are Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Miller, Mr. A. C. Clements,
and Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Wie-
mers.
Presentation of the case was
made following an assembly in
the high school gym last Friday
by Emanuel Honig, class presi-
dent, J. L. Chambers, vice
president, and Bob Hardy,
treasurer.

Miss Jennifer Noreene Mose-
ly and Lucky Roy Pruitt were u-
nited in marriage Friday eve-
ning, September 2, 1966 in a
candlelight ceremony in the
Natalia Baptist Church.
The Reverend James L. Rog-
ers, pastor of the Ravenhill Bap-
tist Church in San Antonio, of-
ficiated in the double ring cer-
emony. The bride is the daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew M.
Mosely of Natalia and parents
of the groom are Mr. and Mrs.
W. S. Pruitt of Devine.
Mrs. James L. Rogers played
the nuptial music on the piano
and she accompanied Mr. K. G.
Kilpatrick as he sang "I Love
You Truly".
The altar was decorated
with candelabra holding blue
candles and an arrangement of
white gladiolas.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a gown
of white Chantilly lace over
taffeta. The fitted bodice was
made with a scalloped Sabrina
neckline and long sleeves that
came to a point at the wrist.
The bouffant skirt featured its
own chapel trai n. Her shoul-
det-length veil was attached to
a crown of seed pearls and
crystals. She carried a boir
quet of white carnations cent-
ered with an orchid.
Miss Susan Sullivan was the
bride's maid of honor and Miss
Janet Thompson and Mrs. Jas.
H. Graham were bridesmaids.
They wore identical street-
length dresses of blue chiffon
over taffeta made with an em-
pire waistline. They wore blue
face vei's and carried bouquets
of white carnations;
The bride's mother wore a
blue metallic dress that fea-
tured an empire waistline, and
she wore matching hat and
pumps. The groom's mother
chose a pink suit and bone ac-
cessories. Her pill box hat was
of a darker shade of pink.
Lonnie Williamson of Natal-
ia served as best man. Cecil
Miss Paula Mabery and Mrs,
Dale Baker from Devine served
the wedding cake and punch
and Miss Jo Ann Caldwell and
Miss Linda Nicholson served
the German chocolate cake
and coffee. \
Miss Janie Messec presided
at the bride's book.
After a short wedding trip
to Concan, the couple are now
making their home in Natalia.
REHEARSAL SUPPER
Mrs. W. S. Pruitt and Mrs.
Cecil Messec Jr. of Moore gave
a rehearsal supper Thursday
night at the Natalia Baptist
Church for the wedding party.

Frank Smith of Oakland, Cal-

Moore; Mr. and Mrs. A. M.

Vows Exchanged
Miss Lura Rogers and Ray
Briscoe were united in marriage
on September 2, 1966, at Alice,
Texas. The Reverend Archie
Waldrum performed the double
ring ceremony in the Church of
Christ.
The bride is the granddaugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Rat-
ley of Alice. The bridegroom’s
parents are Mr. and Mrs. George
Briscoe of Devine,
The Church was decorated
with vases of yellow chrysanthe-
mums.
Given in marriage by her
grandfather, the bride wore a
two-piece white lace suit, white
gloves and veiled pill box hat.
She carried a bouquet of white
carnations. The gold heart-
shaped necklace which she wore
was a gift of the bridegroom.
Miss Mary Ann Clark of Al-
ice was maid of honor. She
wore a royal blue suit with
matching hat and shoes and car-
ried a bouquet of white daisies.

SEAMAN JOHN T. NOONAN
Seaman John T. Noonan,
son of Mrs. George Noonan of
Castroville, participated lrt the
commissioning ceremonies of
the Major Communications Re-
lay ship (AGMR) Arlington in
Portsmouth, Va. The Arlington
has just completed an extensive
three year conversion to her
present type at the Alabama
Drydock and Shipbuilding Com-
pany, Mobile, Alabama, at a
cost of over 30 million dollars.
The Arlington, the former
aircraft carrier Saipan (CVL-48)
was originally commissioned on
July 14, 1946. The Saipan was
employed as an experimental
ship for testing aircraft and in-
troduced the first carrier based
jet aircraft squadron into the
Navy.
The 684-foot ship entered
the Alabama Drydock and Ship-
building Company on March 30,
1963, and was redesignated as
(AGMR-2) in September 1964.
Her name was changed to Ar-
lington on April 8, 1965, com-
memorating Arlington, Va., the
site of the Navy's first wireless
communications station.
The assigned mission of the
Arlington will be to provide the
fleet with modern, reliable,
rapid, and secure communica-
tions, capable of operating for
long periods of time underway
at advanced locations. The Ar-
lington will be capable of sup-
plying vital communications
services in any sea area of the
world.

FFAs Select
Sweetheart
Miss Connie Stidgler was
selected as the official sweet-
heart of Hondo Chapter, Future
Farmers of America, at their
meeting Monday night. A sen^
lor at Hondo High School, she
is the daughter of Mr. and Mr*.
Harold Stiegler.
Miss Stiegler is secretary of
her senior class, a member of
the Owl Band, member of Fu -
ture Homemakers of America,
one of this year's cheerleaders,
served as secretary of the junior
class last year, and she is secre-
tary for the Catholic Youth Or
ganization.
MYF Plans
October Rally
On September 10 - 11, the
Methodist Youth Fellowship Di-
strict Council met at the House
of Peace in Kerrville to plan
a district rally. Stella Mumme
of Hondo was among the mem-
bers present. The rally will be
held in Pearsall on October 8.
The Rev. Paul Perry of Pear-
sall will speak on the subject
Theology and Evangelism. En-
tertainment and fun will in-
clude the annual pie-eating con-
test and other features.

Lutheran Picnic
Set For Sunday
St. Paul's Lutheran Congre-
gation will have its annual pic-
nic this coming Sunday, Sept-
ember 18 at the City Park.
Sunday School will be held
at the Church at 8:30 a.m.
Worship services will be held at
the City Park beginning at 10 a.
m.
A barbecue dinner will be
served following the worship
service. A special free-will
offering will be taken to help
defray the cost of the dinner. A
cordial invitation is extended
to all.
Baptists Honor
Teachers Sunday
Appreciatoin Day for the Sun-
day school teachers and Train
ing Union workers will be ob-
served Sunday at the first Bap-
tist Church of Hondo. Special
recognition will be given to the
Sunday school teachers at the
morning hour of worship and to
the Training Union workers at
the evening worship service.
The goal set for the day is
the presence of the Sunday
school enrollment at tjie morn-
ing hour, Bible study period at
9:45 and 10:55 worship period
and the training union enroll-
ment for the 6:30 hour and
evening worship

ding, Mrs. Ratley was attired in
a navy blue jacket dress with
navy accessories. Mrs. Briscoe
wore a royal blue dress with
matching accessories. Both wore
corsages of white carnations.
Following the wedding cere-
mony a reception was held.
Guests were served from a table
decorated with a centerpiece of
yellow chrysanthemums adorn-
ed with yellow candles. The
wedding cake and punch were
served by Miss Linda Johnston of
Alice and Miss Melanie Dubek
of Gidding. Miss Mary Ann Mc-
Anelly of Pearsall distributed
the rice bags.
After a short wedding trip,
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Briscoe will
make their home at 222 John-
ston St. in Kingsville where Mr.
Briscoe will continue his studies
at A&I College.
Hondo Sorority
Hosts Meeting
The Hondo chapter of Epsilon
Sigma Alpha Sorority, Iota Up-,
silon, was hostess for a District
meeting, Sunday, September II,
at Lost Valley Ranch in Ban-
dera. Guests were sister chap-
ters from San Antonio and La-
redo.
A buffet luncheon was served
at tables featuring the Western
motif in decorations. Flowering
cacti formed the centerpieces.
Small rocks with names print-
ed on each were the place cards
Red bandana aprons were the
favors. The luncheon was fol-
lowed by a business meeting
and a short program
