While at Routhwestern, Miss
Mims studied piano under Mrs.
Drusilla Huffmaster, artist in
residence. Rhe is a member of
both the University band and
orchestra, Delta Delta Delta
Rorority, and Delta Omicron
International Music fraternity.
Recently, she was the recipient
of the Mary Lynn Webb Rtarnes
music award for achievement in
music, and the Delta Omicron
senior honor pin.
During her junior year a t
Routhwestern, Miss Mims was -
elected to Who's Who in Am-
erican Rchools and Colieges,
This spring she was nominee
for Miss'Southwestern.
Mr. Tipton is a graduate cf
Weslaco High Rchool, and the
University band and orchestra,
and the Routhwestern A Cap-
pella Choir, and Pi Kappa
Alpha fraternity.
Miss Mims is planning to
enter the University of Texas
Graduate Music Rchool In the
fall and is making plans for a
wedding next spring.

FFA OFFICERS
GO TO UTOPIA
Newly elected officers of
Hondu Chapter FFA will be at-
tending the Revaldina FFA Of-
ficers Training School in Utop-
ia two days next week.
This meeting will serve as
a district convention in t h a t
the next year's district activi-
ties are drawn up during these
two days. Each set of officers
is assigned the duty of proposing
a certain FFA district function.
Recreation at the school will
consist of swimming, baseball,
volleyball, table tennis, and
playing cards. On the second
afternoon the Vo-ag teachers
will play against the boys in
a game of baseball or volley
ball. Following an early supper
on Thursday night the group
will tour Garner Park.

of the Hondo National Bank.
There will be a wide selec-

FOR THE PUB
Glenn Garrison, reporter an-
nounces new summer hours
for The Pub, youth recreation
center on Avenue M.
Beginning May 27, hours
will be: Monday-Thursday, 6
toll p.m. Friday, 6 p.m, to
midnight; Saturday, 2 p.m,
to midnight; Sunday, 2 to 6
p.m. and 8 p.m. to midnight.
As a special celebration to
open vacation months. The Pub
will open this coming Mon-
day, May 29, at two o'clock
that afternoon.
Eighth graders who will be
entering high school as fresh-
men in September are invitied
to visit and obtain membership
cards, available any time at
The Pub.
DANCE TUESDAY
The first dance of the
summer will be held Tuesday
evening, May 30. The Laugh-
ing King Band will furnish the
music.
Pastor To Give
Parting Message
The Rev. E. C. Brunson has
announced the topic of h i s
final sermon, Sunday, at First
Baptist Church.
It is to be "A Parting Mes-
sage". He invites all members
and friends of any denomina-
tion who would like to visit
the church to attend.
He and Mrs. Brunson are
compiling a memory book of
their years in Hondo and request
pictures from friends to add to
their collection.

Nt. and Mrs. Jackie Winkler
will be dedicated at the mom-

ed at St. Joseph's Catholic
c hurch in Santa Ana.
Attending the bride was her
sister, Miss T. Dempsey, who
wore a blue lace afternoon
dress.
The bride wore a white
lace afternoon dress over a
white satin sheath. Her short
illusion veil was attached to
a flower halo, and she carried
ai 3rm bouquet of white roses.
The bride’s parents reside
Minnesota. Her husband is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. George
Bendele of Hondo, and is pre-
sently serving in the Marine
Corps, in El Toro, California.
HONDO GARDEN CLUB
OFFICERS INSTALLED
New officers of the Hondo
G arden Club were installed at
the annual luncheon held Mon-
day in San Antonio.
Mrs. 0. A. Fly conducted
the installation service, sym-
bolizing the duties of each
officer in relationship to the
harmonious colors in the tapes-
tries of Renaissance art.
Assuming their new offices
for the coming club year are
Mrs. Barnitz Carle, president;
Nts. B. A. Schweers and Mrs.
George Dawson, first and se-
cond vice-presidents; Mrs. H.
B. Haegelin, secretary; Mrs.
J. F. Smith, treasurer; Mrs.
Eugene Kolar, reporter; and
Mrs. Arthur Heider, historian.

Mrs. V. H. Crow, retiring
president, gave her report as
delegate to the state meeting
w hen the club’ received cash
grants totaling $225 from the
Texas Garden Clubs Inc. and
the Sears Foundation.
The awards were for the
HGC's project of Highway 90
beautification; the Medina Me-
morial Hospital landscaping;
and the best community beati-
fication project in District VII.
Mrs. Crow commended the
committees and all members
w ho had cooperated in the past
year and made possible t h e
honors accorded the club.
One member, Mrs. H. B.
Haegelin, a past president, was
recently appointed to a chair-
manship in the State G a r d e if q. T. Woods, and Mrs. E. G.

Mrs. Robert B. Moore, the
former Pat Kollman and daugh-
ter of Mrs. Bob Kollman and
the late Mr. Kollman, will re-
ceive a Master of Education
degree, with a business minor,
from Texas A & M University,
during the regular commence-
ment exercises in College
Station on Saturday, May 27th,
Among those attending the
commencement will be Mrs.
Bob Kollman of Hondo, Mr.
and Mrs. A. A. Wiede and Mr.
and Mrs. R. W. Gaines, Sr. of
San Antonio.
In June the Moore family
will move to Colorado Springs,
Colorado, where Mr. Moore
will assume duties as president
of a land development com-
pany, Wakonda Western, Inc.
This company, of which he is
one of the founders, has deve -
loped several subdivisions in
the area north of Colorado Sp-
rings and is currently expanding
operations.
Gamma Upsilon Chapter of
Delta Kappa Gamma Society
met Tuesday. May 9, 1967 at
7:30 in the municipal center.
Mrs. Jewel Gaston was modera-
tor for the founder's day pro-
gram.
Mrs. Leora Eggen,president,
and Mrs. Lillian Haby, first
vice-president, are planning to
attend the Alpha State Conven*
tion in Ft. Worth, June 9-11.
Refreshments were served to
eighteen members. Hostesses
were Miss Thelma Lynch, Miss
Helen Richter and Mrs. Margar-
et Muennink.

arrangement of yellow gladio-

were the honoree's sisters, Mary
Beth and Cherie Pope.
Approximately 72 guests

Girls’ Auxiliary
Honors W. M. S.
As a highlight of the Girls'
Auxiliary Focus Week, the
First Baptist Church group hon-
ored the members of the Wo-
men's Missionary Society,(the
mother organization), with a
salad supper on Thursday even-
ing at the Educational Building.
The girls, wearing green
and white uniforms, served a
variety of salads, hot rolls, cake
and ice tea at attractively de-
corated tables.
They also took part i n a
sing-song and two skits. Grace
Anne Brookshire spoke on the
activities to be enjoyed by
qualified G. A. members who
attend Queen's Court in Brown-
wood, and told some of her
experiences at last year’s
Court.
Mrs. Autrey Been is Director
of the G. A.; Mesdames Harry
Mueller, Jr., and Charles Ton-
dre are sponsors.
Intermediate G. A. members
who took part in this program
were Kathy Carter, Sherrie Ton-
dre, Rita Covey, Cindy Arm,
Janelle Been and Grace Ann
Brookshire.
Fourteen junior girls acted
as hostesses and 24 members
of the W.M.S. attended as hon-
ored guests.
Over 300 Attend
Family Reunion
Approximately 350 of the
1500 living descendants of Hein-
rich Conrad Kothmann attended
the annual Kothmann reunion
Sunday at Hondo City Park.
Present was the only living
direct descendant of the third
generation of the family who is
85-year old Mrs. Lillie Koth-
mann Hoerster of Mason. She
is the daughter of the late Died-
rich Kothmann.
Hosts for the reunion this
year were the family of John
Muennink.
A devotional and memorial
service preceded the bsbecue
dinner which was served at
noon. Plans were made for a
return gathering at the same
place on June 3, 1968,
