SHOP WORK
The three vocational agri-
culture classes spent the three
weeks before Christmas i n
shop. AH gf the vo-ag I class
was assigned an identical pro-
ject for their first shop work.
The. boys had a choice ot mak-
ing a shop stool or a three-gun
rack to be hung on the wall.
All of the operations on this
project were performed with
hand tools. Some of the tools
used were: cross-cut saw,
metal back saw, coping saw,
tri-square, wood auger bit &
brace hand drills, screwdrivers,
nail sets & paint brushes. This
first project will cost approxi-
mately $1.50.
The vo-ag II and III boys
built metal or wooden projects
of their choice. Metal pro-
jects built were a 14-foot pipe
welded gate by Tommy Stein,
replacing fenders on old car
by Jon Bader; and building of
a barbecue barrel by Eddie
Wernette. Gun cabinets were
built by Danny Dailey and Ri-
chard Dominguez. Pete Gutier-
rez built a large picnic table.
Russell Wilson will complete
three can't-sag wooden gates
this week. A number of lamps
and smoking stands were built
on the wood lathes.
Three large desks are under
construction at the present
time. Most of the projects were
built of oak, red cedar or white
pine.
Sam Faseler is constructing
a head gate to be used in work-

The activities during he
week preceding the holidays
and during the holidays were so
rushed that some lazy reporter
did not get them into this col-
umn. To make amends I
would like to offer a summary
of the varied events at D'Han-
is High during the Christmas
season.
CC
Basketball headed the list of
things to do and places to go.
Over the weekend of December
17, both basketball teams
brought home tournament tro-
phies. The boys won consola-
tion in the Utopia tournament
and the girls captured a first
place in the Brackettville tour-
ney. All-tourney honors in
boih areas went to Jerry Dean,
Dorothy Bendele and myself.
The next Monday the learns
travelled to Nueces Canyon ■
where the girls were defeated
but the Cowboys shone with a
victory of 48-39. Tuesday ihe
Cowgirls were defeated ill a
single game with Devine.
CC
Wednesday the entire school
system entered into the spirit of
Christmas with after noon par-
ties and the annual march to
town to welcome Santa and
the holidays. That night the
Christmas program was held.
Everyone agreed it was out-
standing, sparked with a variety
of good entertainment. Our
FHA chapter provided the finale
plus a special entry of a "Win-
ter Wonderland” duet with Dor-
othy Fohn and Debbie W e y -
nand taking the spotlight.
CC
Thursday the FHA travelled
to Brown's Nursing Home load-
ed with Santa cakes, punch,
and Christinas cheer. Carols
were sung and holiday greet-
ings were extended. As we left
we felt that instead of bringing
Christmas joy we were taking
it with us.
CC
It wouldn't be the holidays
if the basketball exes didn't
challenge the girls' team to a
game. The contest was he.Jd
on Tuesday after Christmas and
proved t»4>e quite-an occasion.
The exes were not only fUtart-,
ous, but good. Maybe rheir
form wasn't the greatest but
they did show off the skills they
had acquired in their "younger
days".
OWL BAND
S notes
By Rick Richter
At the risk of using a cliche
I'll wish everyone a Happy New
Year. Due to the fact that
there hasn't been too much
school lately, there isn't too
much band news, so, for the
sake of honor and school spirit,
etc., 1 will try-to face it.
Again, this Saturday, the
Owl Band members who made
Regional Band will go to Eagle
Pass for a day of practice. That
evening at 7:30 they will give
a concert. The admission
charge will be nominal.

Tuesday night the dancing
class had their holiday party.
After learning new steps for an
hour, Terri let us dance any
style we wanted and we dis-
covered it's fun to use the steps
we learn, even if we don't
have to.
CC
Thursday and Friday were
taken up with basketball.Thurs-
day the girls lost a close one
to Bandera by a score of 45-41.
The boys won over St. Louis
48-23. On Friday the situation
was reversed. The Cowgirl
team defeated Leakey 40-15
while the Cowboys received a
defeat of 43-36 from the Lea-
key boys. After returning home,
quite a few team members bat-
tled the heavy fog to attend the
Hondo senior's dance. The gen-
eral conclusion was that it was
well worth the effort.
CC
New Year’s celebrations and
activities began on Saturday but
these don't necessarily have to
be reported.
1 would like to take this
opportunity to speak for D'Harr-
is Schools and wish you all a
late hut sincere Happy New
Year.
