year that the club began keeping
its official book of the meetings.
This includes a list of all books
read, every member’s evaluation
of each book and anything of
interest to all the club members,
such as pictures, birth
announcements, etc. The club is
one of the oldest library book
clubs in the state that meets
continually month after month,
year after year.
Beesinger said “The book club
is so much fun for everyone.
The great thing about book club
is no matter how controversial
the topic, and we have hit them
all, we have discussed it in a
civilized manner.”
How are the books chosen?
She stated, “Each year I want
the group to read at least one
classic and one multicultural

selection varies. The books
chosen all depend on which

to its monthly meeting."
Member Jean Whittenton said,
“I feel like book clubs, especially
this one at the Archer Public
Library, expose members to
types of books they normally
wouldn’t select; therefore, this
gets them out of their ‘rut’ and
advances their understanding of
the world and world events and
learning more history.”
Ann Parkey said, “I have so
enjoyed the Archer Book Club.
I love the diversity of age,
education, and experiences in
our discussions. The books we
have read have been insightful
and thought provoking, not only
about contemporary issues but
historical perspectives as well."
"The book club is one of the
most important activities in my
life, I have only been absent for
a handful of meetings through
the years and always wonder
about the discussions, insight
and wisdom I missed out on,"
states Vet Gans, one of the club's
original founding members.
November’s read is The
