Min. Applegate is one of the
pioneer citizens of this com-
munity, having moved here
from Tlmpson forty-five years
ago. She still lives on the old
homestead where she reared
her family of five daughters
and one son. All of her chil-

Blair, Aug. 28.—School in
this community opens Monday,
Sept. 2. The teachers are Rob-
ert Ramsey, principal, and
Miss Minnie Golden, assistant.
The government project of
mattress making is in progress
this week at the school house.
Quite a number of lovely mat-
tresses are being turned out.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Thorn-
ton are building a beautiful
new house on the old home-
site.
, Mrs. R. L. Dillon has re-
turned from Kilgore where she
spent two weeks, and got ac-
quainted with a new grand-
son, bom to Mr. and Mrs.
Myrl Crawford.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Smith of
Zavalla spent the week-end
with Mrs. Smith’s parents, Mr.
and Mrs. L. A. Bearden.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Bearden
have returned to Conroe after
a week’s vacation in this vicin-

Mrs. O. M. Dillon and arms
of Lufkin visited in the home
of Mis. Rosa Dillon last week.
Mrs. L. C. Thornton return-
ed home last week from Hous-
ton where she spent several

Vemice Dillon made a busi-
ness trip to Houston this week.
Mrs. Ida Clark and children
of Snyder, Texas, returned
home last Sunday after a visit
with her sister, Mrs. Lee

Edgar Crump, Jr., is spend-
ing a few days in Galveston
visiting relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Julian Fore-
stiche and children of Conroe
spent Sunday in the communi-
ty, en route to points in Missis-
sippi and Florida. Mrs. Fore-
stiche’a mother, Mrs. F. M.
Brittain, accompanied them.
A wedding of interest to this

and Harry Askina. Mr. Asking,
is the son of Mrs. Ruthie Bass
of this community, was reared
here and is a graduate of
Timpson High School, later at-
Hpuston Teach-
ers College. The community
extends congratulations to this
splendid young couple.

Wilda, Aug. 28.—Mrs. Staf-
ford Harrison and ehildren re-
turned home Monday after
spending several days with J.
M. Harrison and other rela-
tives. The oldest son, a grad-
uate of State University, has
a good job in Missouri where
he begins work Sept 1st.
The mattress project is well
under way with Mrs. Bob’Mur-
phy, Mis. Robert Wood and
Mrs. Dalton Oliver as commit-
tee,
C. W. Rhodes and sister,
Miss Olin Rhodes, of Dallas
were week-end visitors of
Pierce Whiteside and wife,.
Sunday they were accompa-
nied by Pierce Whiteside and
wife and Miss Helen to Center
where they visited Russell and

Carry Dies in Alabama

Mrs. W. F. Corry will leave
this afternoon for Holman,
Alabama, w^ere she is called
by the death of her father,
Thomas L. Holman, 85. Fu-
neral services will be held Sat-
urday. Mr. Holman, always
active in the business and
civic affairs of his community,
has conducted a mercantile
business since 21 years of age.
He is survived by four
daughters, Mrs. W. F. Corry,
Timpson; Mrs. W. H. Forlines,
Jackson, Tenn.; Mrs. J. R. Bar-
rett, Monroeville, Ala.; Mrs.
A. T. Mize, Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Six sons—Albert, Northport,
Ala.; Frieda, Doyle, Victor,
Sr., Tuscaloosa. Ala.; Glick,
Montgomery; Orr, Holman.

The Shelby county school
lunch canning unit, has been
everything that we had anti-
cipated and planned, Mrs.
Merrian Wharton, supervisor
of school lunch projects for
Shelby county said today, in
response to inquiry. Continu-
ing, Mrs. Wharton stated, the
communities have responded
splendidly and as a result
there will be some well filled
pantries to begin school with.
The original set-up In the
county was for 12,000 cans.
These have already been filled
and canning operations here
are expeeted to continue
through the week of August
26-81. This will probably be
the largest week of all, Mrs.
Wharton said.
With the closing of Thurs-
day's canning there were 11,
407 cans filled for school as
follows: Stockman, 1,494;
Weaver, 1,510; Wedgeworth,
840; Blair, 2,357; Silas, 1,750;
Todd Spring, 410; Fellowship,
2,290; Neuville, 756.
It is not essential for schools
to can in order to put on the
lunch program and should oth-
er schools desire to serve
lunches they are invited to do
so, according to Mrs. Wharton.

first visit ... was with Mrs.
.Brown’s sister, Mrs, Dean Col-
lins, at Jackson, Miss. . A de-
lightful stop while on the trip
was at DSfiniah, Fla, the old
home city of Mr. Brown. They
also visited Pensacola, Fla.,
New Orleans, Port Arthur,
Houston and Galveston.

Funeral services were held
Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’-
clock at Shiloh ehureh, with
Rev. B. C. Anderson of Timp-
son conducting the service. In-
terment was made in the
Shiloh cemetery. Funeral ar-
rangements were in charge at
the Taylor Estate Funeral
Home.
A Urge crowd of relatives
snd friends were in attend-
ance. The Rev. Anderson, a
close friend of the Amos fami-
ly, paid a beautiful tribute to
the life of deceased, who had
been a faithful servant of God.
The large floral offering at-
tested the love in which she
was held by her friends.
A quartet, “What a Friend
We Have in Jesus,” was sung
by G. D. Pruitt, Burleson Can-
nan, W. M. Ramsey and Mr.
Phillips. The selection was
requested by Mrs. Wallace be-
fore her death.
The pallbearers, all nephews,
were: Donald Wallace, John
Charles Still, Gilbert Sparks,
Marvin Harris, Leroy Hud-
man, Willie Bernes.
Mrs. Wallace was born in
Rusk county, near Caledonia,
March 4, 1885. She was unit-
ed in marriage to E. L. Wal-
lace in 1917, and to this union
was born one child. She has re-
sided in Timpsbri'and vicinity
all her life, and was' a’': conse-
crated Christian Udy whom
everyone held in the highest
esteem. She Tea a member of
the Timpson Methodist church,
and was active in Christian
service while: residihg here'.
For the past five years she haa
resided in Houston where her
husband is engaged in the
barbering business.
Mrs. Wallace to survived by
her husband; one daughter,
Mrs. Toy Morrow of Houston;
one grandchild, Barbara
Ann; brothers: Paul Amos,
Timpson; Smith Amos and
Noble Amos of the Ragley
community; J. V. Amos, Hous-

Uncle Frees and Aunt Winnie
Ramsey gathered at Hie
church for a reunion and what
a grand time we all had togeth-
er.
Lunch was spread mi the
table about 1 o’clock and ev-
eryone enjoyed a feast.
Not only relatives but lets
of the Ramseys' friends worn
witt them to rejoice in their
get-together. We all hope end
pray for another just such a
happy occasion next year.
In the afternoon all gather-
ed in the church where old
hymns were sung and good
talks were made. This writer
is so glad to have had the
grand opportunity to enjoy
this day with the good family
of Uncle Pre» and Aunt Win-
nie Ramsey.
The ladies of this communi-
ty and Silas community met at
Aunt Omie Ramsey’s Tuesday
and made her two new mat-
tresses out of old ones.
Sunday school at this place
is doing good. Small in num-
ber but still faithful and pray-
ing for it to grow. We have
services every first Sunday by
Rev. Tunnell. We invito any
of our friends to come and
worship with us cn this day.
The school children will be-
