BUSSEY’S DRUG STORE
Shreveport, La.—Auto rac-
ing rivalries that have P.ared
since May on countless tracks
in all parts of the country will
be settled at Shreveport when
America’s stand-out dirt track
pilots clash in two Louisiana
State Fair programs scheduled
for Sunday, Oct. 22, and Sun-
day, Oct. 29.
The two speed cards, mak-
ing the official finale of the
1939 International Motor Con-
test association schedule, will
bring together virtually all
leading contenders for 1939
national dirt track champion-
ship awards.
As in 1938, Gus Cchrader
and Emory Collins, arch rivals,
will carry their bitter feud to
to the crack State fair half
mile oval, but their private
duels will be complicated this
year by at least half a dozen
other heavy footed challeng-
ers.
One of these is Johnny
Holmes, 21 year old Los An-
geles daredevil, who has suc-
cessfully matched his youth
ful skill and daring against
the, experience of more season-
ed stars to gain national atten-
tion in his first season as a full
fledged professional. Holmes
entered his fast new Hal ma-
chine early this week.
A second top flight entrant
with a national reputation is
Johnny Wohfiel, colorful De-
troit throttle pusher who has
nominated his 250-horsepower
McDowell racing creation, one
of the fastest in the country
and regarded by many as the
most beautiful. Wohfiel, a vet-
eran of both dirt tracks and
the speedways, is battling for
a high place in the 1939 na-
tional championship rankings.
According to the manager,
entries for the two national
circuit title programs promise
one of the largest and fastest
fields of cars and drivers in
many years. He declared the
general caliber of the recruits
runs much stronger than ever
before.

I Saved a

It’s a great satisfaction to look over the day's
accounts and find you’ve been able
money, by careful buying.
to save
I
i
Knowing where to buy is part of the trick.
But knowing how to buy is a-bigger part. The
»
wise ‘’business manager’’ of the home plans
her shopping as skillfully as a business man
plans to spend a thousand dollars.
Advertisements help greatly, of course.
On daily necessities like meats, fruits, vege-
tables, they show you how to save 2c here, 3c
there, adding up to much. But advertise-
ments are just as helpful on larger purchases
—furniture, draperies, motor cars, clothing,
groceries. Followed carefully, advertising
saves you money all down the line . . . helps
you run the household more economically . . -
gives the budget a chance to breathe!
