on for 30 days. Then it ends au-
tomatically.
It can be stopped earlier by
agreement of House and Sen-
ate to adjourn. Such an agree-
ment scarcely could be worked
out in a week. Usually it is a
matter of considerable jockey-
ing between the two branches
as an endeavor is made to get
into position to force the other
branch to. accept something
rather than go home without
anything.
The procedure is for either
House or Senate to pass a con-
current resolution specifying
an adjournment date. Such a'
resolution is not effective until
both branches adopt it. But
the branch that first adopts a
date and sends .the resolution
to the other has its hands tied.
Both are wary about getting
into such a fix.

Some members who have re-
signed since the regular ses-
sion are reported to be consid-
ering withdrawal of the resig-
nations, claiming that until
the Governor accepts a resigna-
tion it is not effective. Former
Rep. Marvin London of Mon-
tague, one of those who has
resigned, said he considered
the resignation effective when
filed, and that no acceptance
was necessary.
Any former representative
who has gone on the state pay-
roll for any length of time
would automatically cease to
he a representative, London
believes.

A session of the legislature
might lead to a disposition of
the charge of obstructing leg-
islation that was filed against
Jan Anderson, director of Tex
las Pensions Union, at the reg-
ular session.
I County Attorney Paul Holt
has not dismissed the case
though there has been no at-
temnf to nush it. Holt srys the
complaint was filed by Rep. E.
H. Thornton of Galveston.
Thornton says he acted only as
an officer of a legislative com-
mittee carrying out committee
instructions and has no right
individually to ask that the
complaint be. dismissed. The.
committee would have to be re-
created by the Legislature and
reconsider its action, Thornton
said.

Former Lieut. Gov. Walter
Woodul has been suggested as
a likely appointee for numer-
ous offices at the Governor’s
disposal since Woodul was de-
feated for attorney general.
He now is being discussed as
likely to be appointed Secre-
tary of State, succeeding Tom
L. Beauchamp, of. Tyler, re-
cently appointed to the state
court of criminal appeals.

Reports indicate that the
raw wool reserve will be heavi-
ly drawn upon for blankets,
underwear, and other wearing
apparel. This heavy demand
would naturally cause prices
to increase, It is difficult to
predict at this time when the
increase will come, but' those
who can recall conditions in
1914 will remember that
prices went up shortly after it
was determined there would
be a heavy demand for wool
materials.
