New employes of United
Gas corporation who will re-
place the large number of
those leaving to join the arm-
ed forces are carefully trained
in public service work before
they go out to contact the
public, said W. B. Currey, dis-
trict manager of the company,
today.
“The first lesson of the new
employe on his first day might
be called the lesson in the spir-
it of true public service. He is
taught that his job amounts to
more than just working and
learning. Thousands of our
men and women employes be-
fore have been taught the
same lesson; namely, that it is
a tradition of the company to
serve, to go out of the way in
order to serve, and to bend
every thought and effort so
that our customers may con-
tinue to enjoy a high standard
of service night and day.
“Now that we are in war,
the company has adopted e
policy that winning the war
comes first. We feel that our
first job is our duty to our
country. Our employes’ train-
ing has been adapted to the
needs of wartime service. The
company is encouraging the
buying of defense bonds by
employes and fitting recogni-
tion is being given those who
leave to join the armed serv-
ices.”
The ever lengthening list of
articles removed from market
as more plants are converted
to war production makes it
vita! that all we possess should
be guarded from fire losses.
