Rev. and Mrs. W. L. Can-
nan and daughter, Mary Lee,
left today for liberty to attend
the wedding of their son, EL E.
Cannan to Miss Mildred Ann
Fisher of that city. The wed-
ding will take place this even-
ing at the First Methodist
church in Liberty, with Rev.
Cannan performing the cere-
mony, assisted by Rev. R. C.
Terry of that city.
Mrs. Russell McClain and
small daughter. Rosalyn Diane,
of Houston, are here for a visit
with their grandparents. Rev.
and Mrs. E. V. Tunnell.
John Payne and Gloria Dick-
son are featured in Warner
Brothers’ presentation “King
of the Lumberjacks,” with Tea
Ritter’s new western, “Pals of
the Silver Sage,” at the Palace
tonight.
Jack Pruitt, son of Superin-
tendent and Mrs. George D.
Pruitt left Thursday to take
part in the wedding ceremony
of E. B. Cannan in Liberty. He
will return Saturday. He also
attended a dinner given in
honor of Miss Fisher and Mr.
Cannan Thursday night in the
home of Mr. and Mrs. R. G.
Partlow of Liberty.
Mrs. W. L. Keel returned to
her home in La Porte Thursday
morning, after a three weeks'
visit with her grandmother.
Mrs. R. H. Gasway, and other
Timpson relatives. She was ac-
companied home by her son.
Jimmy, who spent the summer
here with relatives.
“King of the Lumberjacks,”
a story of the lumber camps of
the great Northwest, comes to
the Palace tonight and Satur-
day. A very promising young
star, John Payne, who will
soon be seen in Maryland, is
featured with Gloria Dickson
in this saga of the redwoods.
Feature No. 2 will be Tex Rit-
ter in “Pals of the Silver
Sage."
Shelbyville Dragons to
Open With Timpson;
Schedule Announced
The following football
schedule has been announced
for the Shelbyville Dragons:
Sept. 13, Timpson at Shel-
byville; Sept. 20, Chester at
Chester; Sept. 27, Center at
Shelbyville; Oct. 4, Logansport
at Logansport; Oct. 11, San
Augustine at San Augustine;
Oct. 18, Carthage at. Carth-
age; Oct. 25, Alto at Alto;
Nov. 1, open; Nov. 8, Newton
at Newton; Nov. 15, Kirbyville
at Kirbyville.
H. L. Rogers, vice-president
and cashier of The Cotton Belt
State Bank of this city, plans to
leave late Saturday afternoon
for Austin where he will
spend a week attending a
series of lectures to be given
there. The subject of the dis-
courses will be banking and
economics. Outstanding bank-
ers, who are experts in their
particular field, and college
professors of high ranking uni-
versities, will bring the lec-
tures. The course is being
given under the direction of
the Texas Banker’s Association
and the Schoof of Business Ad-
ministration of the University
of Texas. Mr. Rogers will re-
turn home Friday, Sept. 6th.
J. R. Nichols, Jr., left Wed-
nesday for Russellville, Arkan-
sas, where he wiil enter Arkan-
sas Polytechnic College for the
ensQing year. His brother,
Clyde R. Nichols, is dean of
engineering at the college. J.
R. plans to take a pre-law
course, preparatory to becom-
ing an attorney and forming a
partnership in a law firm with
his brother, Perry, in Miami,
Florida.

Entertains Group of
Young People Honoring
Burleson Cannan
Gayety, good humor, and
fun reigned Wednesday even-
ing when Miss Bonnie Rue
Hayes entertained a group of
young people, honoring Burle-
son Cannan, who is to be mar-
ried on Friday, August 30th, to
Miss Mildred Fisher of Liber-
ty.
The guests were met at the
door by the hostess and usher-
ed into the living room. Table
games of dominoes, Chinese
checkers, flinch, and group
games were played and en-
joyed for hours.
Delicious refreshments were
served to the following guests:
