er of Port Arthur spent last
weekend in TSmpepn and Car-
thage. In Timpson they visited
Mr. Witcher’s father, Willie
Witcher, and grandparents,

Ramsey. Mr. Witcher has a po-
sition with Texaco, Inc., at Port

moving to their new home in
San Angelo. Mr. Tyer accom-
panied his family to Pampa,

son, Kenneth Wayne, of Ven-
ice, La., enjoyed a recent
week's visit with her mother,
Mrs. Dorothy Baas in Timpson.

the schools there.

ter spending the week with

rolled in Tyler Junior College
as sophomores this fait.

and will teach in Vanderbilt

son, waa honored with a birth-
day party, Sunday, August 27.

Run at Kansas City
Thirty-four little Leaguers,
twenty-two Babe Ruth players
and 14 adult supervisors from
Center made a trip to Kansas
City last Friday where they
attended a'thrilling baseball
game between .the: Key , York
Yankeee: .and Kansas,City
Athletics. They made the trip
to Shreveport via bus where

rived in' Kansas City at 7:39 a.
m. Saturday, and after break-
fast boarded buses for an ex-
eunlcn to the Harry Truman
Library at nearby Independ-
ence. Mr. Truman was there to
meet the group and guided
them on a tour of the library
The big thrill of the trip
when the group attended the
baseball game between the
New York Yankees and the
Kansas City Athletics. The
Yankees won the contest 5-1.
They saw Roger Maris get his
51st home run of the season;
also saw Hony Kubek get his
sixth home run. They saw
Mickie Mantle get two hits,
struck out once and walked
twice, but no home run.
Making the trip from Timp-
son were Orval Miller, Jr. and
Marion Miller, sons of Mr. and
Mrs. Orval Miller. They report
a thrilling trip and were parti
eularly pleased with having
met former President Harry
Truman at the Truman library.
The baseball game was the big
thrill of the entire trip for the
young baseball enthusiasts.
The trip was sponsored by
Radio Station KDET, and Dr.
Robert L. Clifford was in
charge of the tour, assisted by
Chuck Lunsford.

The Shelby County Property
Owners Association met Au-
gust 28, at Center, and in-
structed the steering commit-
tee to go ahead and hire audit
firm to audit county books.
Next meeting is announced for
Monday, September 4, 8 p. m.
at SheJby county court house in
Center. An interesting pro-
| gram is planned, it is stated;

Timpson Missionary Baptist
Church Friday, August 26, at
seven o’clock in Hie evening.
The candlelight, double ring
ceremony .was performed by
the Rev. Horace Magness, fa-
ther of the groom.
Parent* of the bride are Mr.
and Mrs. Herman Bridwell of
Timpson. The bridegroom’s
parents are the Rev. and Mrs.
Horace Magness of Carthage.
Two candelabra, each hold-
ing five white tapers, two tall
white baskets of gladioli and
an arrangement of white lilies
on the piano completed the
setting for the ceremony.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a floor-
length, jacketed gown of white
lace tiers. The jacket fastened
by twelve tiny buttons, was
fsshioned with a round collar
and pointed, bracelet-length
sleeves. Both jacket and gown
were encrusted with whits
sequins. The fingertip veil of
net foil from a pearl and crys-
tal tiara. She canted a bouquet
of white carnations atop a
white Bible.
Miss Janell BridweU served
her sister as maid of honor.
She wore a dress of rose and
pink taffeta, with a pink nylon
overskirt and carried white
carnations.
Mr. Ben Barnes nerved the
groom as best man. Ushers and
candlelights r* were Albert
Wayne Bridwell and Ben
Rhodes, brother and cousin of
the bride.
Miss Kay Rhode* served her
cousin as flowergiri, sprinkling
pink rose petals from a silver
and whJU'hasket ifithe path of
the bride,. Her dre^s and duster
shaped pillow.'
Wedding music from the

vocal selection* were rendered
by Miss Diane Bowlin of Timp-
son.

immediately after the cere-
mony. The reception table waa
covered with an ecru lace cloth
centered with the bride’s bou-
quet and a tiered wedding

bride and groom. Mm. James

cake squares, and Miss Dhren-
etta Reed of Clayton served
punch from a crystal punch
bowl. Miss Judy Rhodes, eous-
b of the bride, registered the
guests.
After a short wedding trip
the couple wilt be at home at
China, Taxes. The bridegroom,
a recent graduate of Stephen
F. Austin State College, wfll
fill a position in the China
school system.
