Henderson, Ky., Jan,
There’s no shortage
willing to give Shirley Ann Thur-
mond the measles. The story of
the two and one-half year old
girl's plight had scarcely been
told by the Associated Pres# be-
fore offer# begun arriving from
all over- Doctors say* Shirley
needs a case of infectious red
measles to combat a serious kid-
ney disease.
Among the offers was one from
the mayor of New Martinville,
West Virginia, who wired that a
fuii scale measles epidemic pre-
vails in his town. The operator
of a children’s nursery in Atlan-
ta said 60 to 75 cases are antici-
pated there in the next week, nnd
she'd be glad to invito Shirtoy to
visit. There were many others,
too, but Shirley’s mother said by
waiting a few days, she thought
there might be a case closer to
home.
