mated $24 UUion wiH be spent
by farmers cf the nation for
electrical appliances and
equipment daring the period
from 1959-1975. This amounts
to an average of $5,500 per
farm.
The estimates are from a
rural market study just com-
pleted by the Rural Electrifi-
cation Administration and con-
tains estimates for the total
number of TJ.S. farms whether
served by REA borrowers or
other utilities.
Purchases during the next
five years are expected to
amount to about *5.5 billion
and for the following 10 years
to around $11.3 billion. The
study is based on previous esti-
mates that the power require-
ments of RfiA financed systems
will nearly double by 1966 and
triple by 1975. It also assume,
there will be no drastic
changes in income, prices and
technology and that the num-
ber of farms based on Census
definitions will decline by 161
percent during the next 20
years.
Expenditures for 27 Items
are estimated in the study.
Lights and house wiring will
be the best sellers. Refrigera-
tors are second; television re-
ceivers third; washing ma-
chines fourth and in order are
plumbing and related facili-
ties, home freesers and elec-
tric ranges. , ,
In the farm equipment
group, milk coolers and water
pumps are expected to be the
top sellers. Milking machines,
drill presses; fractional horse-
power motors, livestock water-
ing equipment, power saws,
feed grinders, chicken brood-
ers, tool grinders, and dairy
water heaters follow in order.
