SHELBYVILLE 15-14
(By Gilbert Rhodes)
The Tim peon Bears came
from behind last Friday night
in the final period to defeat
the Sheibyviile Dragons 16-14
in an almost fantastic display
of fourth quarter football at
ShelbyviHe. The Dragons com-
pletely dominated play ia the
first three quarters, leading 14-
O in the 3rd, but were slapped
into defeat by a fiery Timpeon
team that literally exploded
for two touchdowns and three
extra points in the spine-ting-
ling fourth quarter. Tim peon’s
big moment was a 61-yard
touchdown run by George
Hancock in the final minutes to
tie the ball game. The play
was a “secret" trick play which
completely fooled the Sheiby-
viile team and the spectators
as well.
Early in the game, Shelby-
ville drove deep into Bear ter-
ritory after intercepting a
Tlmpson pass on the 40-yard
line, but fumbled on the Bear
one where Timpson recovered
From this point, Timpson was
forced to punt out to their own
30 where Sheibyviile began its
first scoring drive of the even-
ing. The drive was climaxed
with halfback Joe Taylor go-
ing over left tackle from the
6-yard line for the touchdown.
The try for extra paints failed,
giving Sheibyviile a 6-0 lead.
The Dragons received the
second half kick-off and moved
04 yards to score their second
and last touchdown with Quar-
terback Joe Schilling blasting
over from the 4-yard line.
Schilling added the extra
points, putting the Dragons
ahead of Thnpeo* 14-0.
Late in the third quarter,
the Beam halted a Sheibyviile
drive on the Timpson 2-yard
line and gained a spark of fire
that started them rolling for
the remaining 96-yards and ’a
touchdown. Fton the two,
Halfback Mike Towns broke
away for right yards and later
for twenty to provide running
room for the Timpson team
whose sharp blocking paved
the way for the long march to
tho Dragon 2-yard tins. Quar-
terback Byron Bridwell smash-
ed over for the touchdown.
Quarterback John Tyson re-
ceived the ball on the fake ex-
tra point kick aad fired a pass
to halfback Billy Ray Box who
made a. great leaping catch in
the end zone to make the score
Sheibyviile 14, Timpson 8.
Tension mounted as Sheiby-
ville received the ensuiag kick-
off and began driving toward
the Bear goal line, making two
quick first downs to the Bear
39-yard line where Timpson
stopped a fourth down play
and took over with 2:16 ieft in
the game.
The atmosphere was filled
with excitement as the Bears
broke huddle and calmly lined
up, setting the stage for the
swift and savage blow that was
to mean defeat for the Dragon
team. The ball was supped
and the Timpeon backs appear-
ed to be making short gain
around the right end but from
out of nowhere, Guard George
Hancock broke down the op-
posite sideline with tho football
and sped 61 yards for a touch-
down. Everyone was complete-
ly fooled but the Bears as they
proceeded to go for the tie-
breaking extra point kick with
Bridwell doing the booting.
The kick was low and wabbly,
kitting the cross bar and rest-
ing upon it for a moment be-
fore toppling over giving the
Bears a slim one-point lead
with only 1*0 showing on
the clock.
The Dragons came back
fighting as they took the kick-
off and moved to the Bear 7-
yard tine as the final 10 seconds
began ticking sway. With

from the two, a Dragon back
crashed into foe left side but

7 SILAS'
(By Mrs. L. & Perkins)
Sites, Oct 16—We had eev-
soiid wall of Beam who knock- <—tl. visitors ia church for both
ed the hall loose and recovered
only inches short of the goal-
line, giving Timpeon the vic-
tory as the last seconds died
away. So, in a hair-raising, Fri-
day 13th, everything-bappen-
ed ball game, the fighting
Timpeon Bears cam* from be-
hind to steal the victory from
a fine but bungling Sheibyviile
team, 15-14.
The Bear line of Johnny
Bush, Dave Taylor, George
Hancock, Charles Cook, Larry
Whitlock. Phillip Baker, Jim-
my Yarbrough and John Hend-
ricks proved tough hi the three
goal tine stands and was equal-
ly potent on the 98 yard scor-
ing drive in foe fourth quarter.
Backs Tyson, Britton, Bard-
well sad Towns did their usual
fine job offensively along with
Byron Bridwell who displayed
skill at punting with a good 36-
yard average in four kicks.
Steve Franks and Lester John-
son did a fine job as tinehaek-
ers along with Billy Ray Box,
who also is credited for a great
catch for two extra points in
the final period.
