Austin, Tex.—Manufacture
of creamery butter and Amer-
ican cheese in Texas during
May was substantially above
that of both the preceding
month and the corresponding
month last year, the University
of Texas Bureau of Business
Research has announced. Ac-
cording to reports from repre-
sentative groups of Texas
creameries and cheese fac-
tories, creamery butter pro-
duction increased 12.9 per cent
over the preceding month and
5.5 per cent over May, 1937;
while American cheese produc-
tion increased 6.7 per cent over
April and 25.6 per cent oved
May last year.
Ice cream manufactured was
35.7 per cent greater than in
April but 11.2 below that of
May a year ago. This decline
from a year ago evidently re-
flects curtailment of consumer
income since ice cream is still
regarded as a semi-living pro-
duct.
Reference is made to the
candidacy of John Wood, in a
letter written to B. J. Haw-
thorn of Timpson, by a friend
in Liberty county. The letter
to Mr. Hawthorn says in part:
“Regarding the candidacy of
John Wood, will say I am 100
per cent for him, and it is my
opinion that he will carry Lib-
erty county by a large major-
ity. We have lots of people
down here at Cleveland that
are from Shelby county, and
they are all for Mr. Wood. I
was out at Pecos and other
West Texas towns a few days
ago, and I found them strong
for him in that section.”
