ABOUT EGGS
College Station.—The time
Wfll come when eggs will be

Rjwenunept grade.
la making'' this prophecy,
Tgurray, Extension

price.
Eggs are not sold in suffi-
cient volume in many sections
of this stijie to justify the exT
pease of employing a licensed
grader.
The United States Standard
is used as a basis for grading
eggs at many of ti e large ter-
minal markets in the country.
Under this plan, eggs, graded
by a licensed operator, are
placed in sealed cartons with
certificates or quality approv-

grade, but the date of grading,
and the sire of the egg are
given on the certificate. Size is
important, Mist Murray says.
A dozen eggs should be uni-
formly lafge, uniformly medi-
um or uniformly small, and all
should be fairly uniform in
shape. Color is least lmpor:
tant, but all white or all brown
eggs are more attractive.'
Care is an important factor
in maintaining the quality of
eggs. They should be gather-
ed in a wire basket and kept
in a cool place where there is
a good circulation of air. This
will prevent deterioration.
Eggs should be gathered at
least twice daily and marketed
two or three times a week.
Poultry specialists of the
A. and M. College Extension
Service have prepared mate-
rial on the grading of eggs
during the summer months,
and copies are obtainable
from the office of county ex-
tension agents.
One out of every 11 acres of
cropland in the 10 leading cot-
ton states is unfit for row-
crop cultivation, according to
H. H. Bennett, chief of the Soil
Conservation Service.
