SP ANNOUNCES
MERGER PLANS
Houston—Southern Pacific
today announced plana to
merge three subsidiary rail-
road companies into the parent
company structure, aa part of
its program of corporate sim-
plification.
President D. J. Russell said
a merger agreement has been
approved by the boards of di-
rectors of the Southern Paci-
fic Company and the three
subsidiaries—the Texas and
New Orleans Railroad Com-
pany, the El Paso and South-
western Railroad Company of
Texas, and the El Paso South-
ern Railway Company.
Southern Pacific owns, di-
rectly or indirectly, the entire
outstanding stock of the three
subsidiaries, and the approxi-
mately 4,000 miles of rail line
which they own in the states of
Texas and Louisiana la present-
ly operated as part of the
Southern Pacific Transporta-
tion System.

ing modified-eertified Brucel-
losis Free States, bringing the
total to twenty-eix states that
have attained this status. This
points out that the brucellosis
control is moving at a rapid ex-
cels rated pace.
Texas is making progress in
the control of bangs disease
also. Texas now has thirteen
modified-certified brucellosis
free counties. There are ten
counties in the process of certi-
fication at the present time and
twenty-seven counties that
have petitioned for the Type
Two Control program (Test
and Slaughter). A total of sev-
en counties are involved in the
Type One Control program

Wheeler, both of the Arcadia
community, and directors of
the Shelby County Cattlemen
Association, reports that al-
most one hundred percent of
the replacement heifers of
their community have been
calfbood vaccinated against
brucellosis. They all worked
together and made it
reports Van Hughes. Paul
Hughes says, “It will pay you
to have all heifer calves vacci-
nated because they will sell
lot better if they are.’*
Sam Childs, member of the
Silas 4-H Club, recently won
fourth place in the Nacogdo-
ches Store Area Sears Swine
Heavy Litter contest with his
Du roc pigs. Sam receiv ed $12
in prize money for his fine
work. Carolyn Chandler, of
the Excelsior 4-H Club, placed
tenth in the same contest and
received $4 for her fine work.
Several calls were received
in the county agent's office
this past week on rat control.
All farmers and poultry men
should make an all out effort
to rid their property of rata
before grain and bay is stored.
Some very good rat bait is
available through regular
tall outlets at very reasonable
prices.
