No trip to playoffs,
Owls ride roller
coaster season
By C. J. 'Rodrigue#
Sporty tdttor
Things were looking
good for the playoff hunt, until
the last few games for the Owls.
The baseball team went into the
second round of district with a
record of 3-2; in third place, with
Medina Valley and Devine tied
for first.
The Owls started the sec-
ond round with a win over
Somerset 5-2, then a non-district
game against Jourdanton (be-
cause it was the week of Regional
TVack Meet). The Owls traveled to
Devine where they suffered a dis-
appointing loss, by the score of 0-
5. This put the Owls 4-3 in dis-
trict play, still third. Bandera was
next on the list, and the Owls
made it an interesting game.
Playing nine innings, the Owls
were tied at 2-2 until sophomore
Charlie Arcos came up to bat with
the bases loaded and drove in C
J. Rodriguez for the winning run.
The pressure was on the Owl
team, they had to beat M.V. in or-
der to have a chance at the play-
offs. Things didn't go the way the
Owls planned, they ended up los-
ing 3-13, ending any hopes of go-
ing to the playoffs. Then the Owls
lost to their finale 5-9 to the
Ingram Warriors.
“I'm disappointed we
didn't play as well as we could
when we needed to win, espe-
cially when it came to going to the
playoffs," said sophomore Geoige
Villa.

There will be no more
“take me out tc the ball park" for
the JV baseball team as their sea-

record.

Relay teams make finals
in regional meet
By Pedro-Cortrera*
Stuff Reporter
Despite taking a record 18
members to the regional meet, the
Hondo Owls didn't have a strong
showing of results but had a great
overall experience.
For the varsity boys, both
relays competed at the meet but
results weren't what the team ex-
pected. Senior Sean Nooner ran
in the 400 meter dash but was dis-
appointed with his time. Cody
Dailey who also competed in the
200 meter dash ran a time of 22.9.
Senior Chad McGuffin competed
in shot put and sophomore Frank
Denny .competed in pole vault.
"Although we didn't do so
great, I had a great time and a lot
of fun," said junior Joey Resendez.
Coach Eddie Boggess
thought that this year's track sea-
son was great and was pleased
with performances in every meet
this year.
"I was disappointed that we
didn't win the district title. How-
ever, we competed well," safd
Coach Boggess.
Varfitygirls also had all
their relays compete in Kingsville.
In the TOO'meter relay Kandi
Rummef, Kim Rothe, Jennifer
Ytuarte, and Priscilla Amador ran
a time of 151. For the 1600 meter
relay Amador, Rakel Thigpen,
Ytuarte, and Jennie Moerbe ran a
time of 4:18. But during the pre-
lims, they broke the school record
when they ran a time of 4:10.81.
Sophomore Melinda Ruiz com-
peted in the 800 meter run and fin-
ished with a time of 2:28.
"It was very competitive at
Regionals, but I was glad I had a
chance to compete at the meet,"
said Ruiz.
early lead and ended up walking
away with an easy victory with a
score of 9-3. Freshman B.J
Dominguez was the winning
pitcher.
The team then traveled to
Ingram April 19 and earned an-
other big victory. Junior Gaylon
Schueling hitting a homerun with
Will Wren and Chris Rodriguez
on base. Chris Braden received
the win for the team. Wren went
4 for 5 at bat and had three RBI's.
Then on April 20 the team trav-
eled to the Medina Valley tourney
and were eliminated right off the
bat.
"If we would have
avoided the errors, I think we
would have won the tourna-
ment," said sophomore Billy
Evans.
The team lost to Devine
in the first game with a score of 4-
2, and a tough Bandera team with
a score of 8-4.
"We were hitting the ball,
but it was just that their defense
was solid," said freshman Mike
Beard.
• Trying to end a two
game losing streak, again the
team fell short and were defeated
by Poteet with a score o/4-3.
"I had a lot of fun, but I
wish we would have played more
games," said junior Dion Morin.
