Football teams ready
as season approaches

The Owb 96-97 football sea-
son hope to have a better outcome
than the last season. The Owls
have 15 returning letterman, all of
them seniors. They also hope to
have a few juniors and maybe
some sophomores step up to
make the team a contender for
district next year.
"We are real excited about
next season, and feel like we can
gjve’MceKna Valley and Devine a
good game," said Junior Shaun
Neumann.
The Owls Mve started a
new off season program, and the
coaches feel like the players are
getting stronger and faster every
day. The Owls will start off the
season with a scrimmage against
Cuero.
"We feel like Cuero is one
of the best, if not the best team in
the state, and if we can come out
and play good against them we
can do anythir g," said Junior
Billy Joe DeLeon.
With the addition of Lytle
to distict 27-3A, the Owls will
have one more opponent to face.
But the Owls still are planning to
come out on top and win the dis-
trict title.
Volleyball girls gear up
for 'higher level1 in 1996

The vollfeyball team has
started early this year with
offseason drills in preparation for
next year's season.
The players are looking for-
ward to competing at a higher
level next year.
"I think that we will haves
good team if w6 play as a team
and not as individuals," said jun-
ior Grace De Leon.
The varsity will be a very
young team because the major-
ity of the players will be under-
classmen.
"I hope that next year we
will be a competitive team," said
sophomore Kim Rothe. "I also
hope that we will have an unde-
feated season."
The Owls will begin the
season with a scrimmage against
Hvy on Aug. 16. The first game
will be Aug. 20 with district be-
ginning Sept 17.
