Council doses year with elections

The Hondo High School
Student Council has kept busy
with the election of new officers
and attending conference. The
most recent conference they at-
tended was held in Austin on
April 25-27.
The Student Council at-
tended a leadership conference in
Austin where they were taught
leadership skills and learned new
ideas on actions to take here at
HHS, and more knowledge was
gained on new procedures done'
in student council.
"We had a lot of fun at the
conference and at the same time
we learned important things that
will help to make us better offic-
ers in student council," said jun-
ior Michael Garcia.
In other business, new of-
ficers were elected recently. The
newly elected major officers are as
follows: president Michael

performance at Festival

The Hondo Owl band trav-
eled to San Antonio on May 3 to
participate in the Bluebonnet
Band Festival and did not do as
well as they hoped to.
The band received straight
two's in concert but had expected
tb do much better.
"This is the first time in a
long time that we have received
two's instead of one's," said jun-
ior Shaun Neumann. '7 still think

a luncheon May 3 to honor retir-
ing high school employees Rich-
ard Adams, Mary Ann Hartmann
and Bonnie Groff.

to Fiesta Texas. The Owl band is
still working hard and they are
preparing for next year.
Flag tryouts were held on
May 17. There was approxi-
mately 28 people who tried out

competed at State UIL Academic

of Texas campus. Moerbe com-
peted in Headline Writing and
Schueling competed in Feature
Writing; however, neither placed
in the top six.
"I thought it was a lot of
fun, but I wish 1 would have
placed; there's always next year,"
Moerbe stated.
This was sponsor Mary Jo
Peters fourth trip to the state meet,
but it was the first year that two
qualified.
"It was a great opportunity
to show their talent," Mrs. Peters
said. "They have worked hard all
year with the rest of the publica-
tions staff to produce the news-
paper and yearbook. They are the
best of foe best."
Schueling qualified for the
state contest after placing first at
the regional contest April 20.
Moerbe placed second in the re-
gional contest.
Other students who placed
at regionals were April Wooten
fifth in Literary Criticism, and the
Computer Science Team com-
prised of Tisha' Miller, Wendi
Sisneros and Anthony Santillano
placed sixth.

Alamo Area Regional Citizen Bee
contest. Man placed second and
received a $500 savings bond.

Mann, Shueling, Grant Steward
and Alternate Michael Garcia.
work projects that they had al-
ready made to the contest. The
projects included swings, chairs,
mirrors, bread boxes, picnic tables,
cedar chests, and wagons. All
members received blue ribbons
for their work, which is the
equivalent to a 90-100 grade.
Hernandez also competed
in the cabinet making contest af-
ter placing 2nd in district.
"We all had a lot of fun in
Fbrt Worth,” said Hernandez.
