ResidenLs and volunteers have
been busy the past week working on
ceramics for the coming sale the end
of March. Shelves in the Activity
room are beginning to fill with rab-
bits, geese, ducks and eggs.
My apologies to the Gaudalupanas.
They presented a large basket of deli-
cious, beautiful fruit to residents for
Valentine's Day and I did not thank
them in the column last week. Resi-
dents were thrilled with the treat and
enjoyed every bite as they ate their
favorite. Again thank you very much
for the special treat.
Also Mary Mares and friends Nora
and Beatrice Nira decorated the din-
ning room for the King and Queen.
Chairs were beautifully done and
hearts and streamers adorned the
royal area. My thanks to them for a
great job well done.
There was a lot of excitiment on
Thursday afternoon as residents and
staff and visitors watched all the en-
tries being brought in for the bake off.
Judges Brenda Burrell and Patsy
Graff arrived at 2:30 and found sev-
enteen entries ready and waiting for
them to sample and find a grand prize
winner. While they were making their
decision, residents and guests played
a trivia game about George Washing-
ton. Finally the time came for the
announcement of the winners. Mary
Ulbrich won 1st place, Ester Koehler
won second, Mary Jane Saathoff and
Necey Schulte won third and Leona
Honig received honorable mention.
After all this excitement everyone
enjoyed sampling all the delicious
desserts. There were pies, cookies,
breads, cobblers and frozen desserts
and all were winners.
We thank each of you who entered
the bake off, the judges and volun-
teers who helped make this a success
and a fun filled afternoon for resi-
dents.
Bruce and Rubye Rorak were here
on Friday afternoon to entertain resi-
dents. We welcomed the newly weds.
We missed them last month when
they were unable to come because
they were on their honeymoon. Ev-
eryone enjoyed the music and visiting
with them. We all wished them a long
and happy married life.
Saturday residents enjoyed an ice
cream social given by the Baptist
Missionary Women. They were also
treated to accordian music played by
Mr. Gauna. Everyone really had a
good time and we thank all of you who
helped make the afternoon so enjoy-
able.
Sunday the members of First Bap-
tist Church held services for resi-
dents. The opportunity to worship is
very important to residents and we
thank you for sharing your faith and
time with them.
March promises to be a very active
month with the beginning of spring,
St. Patrick's Day and our sale. '
Recipes for the bake-off winners
will be printed in our March newslet-
ter. If you are interested in having a
copy, please come by and see me.
