tion 5 of Article III of the Con-
stitutin relating to sessions of
the Legislature and what may
foe considered thereat and an
Amendment to Section 24 Art-
icle III relating to compensation
of Members of the Legislature;
specifying the time when the
Amendment shall take effect if
ratified; and providing for tho
submission of tho proposed
Amendment to a vote of the peo-
ple. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
LEGISLATURE OP THE
"" STATE OF TEXAS:
Section 1. That Section 24 of
- Article III of the State Constitu
tion be amended to read as fol-
lows :
"Sec. 24. Members of tho Stato
Senate and House of Represent-
atives shall receive from tho
Stato Treasury an annual salary
of Three Thousand Six Hundred
Dollars ($3600) to "be paid in
i monthly installments on the first
of each month.
They shall also be entitled to
mileage in going to the seat of
government for each session of
Legislature and returning there-
from which mileage shall not ex-
ceed Two Dollars and Fifty
cents (.$2.50) for every twenty-
five (25) miles the distance to
bo computed by the nearest and
most direct route of travel from
' a table of distances to each
county seat prepared by the
State Comptroller."
Sec. 2. That Section 5 of Art-
icle III of the Constitution be
amended to read as follows :
"Sec. 5. Two (2) regular ses-
sions 'of each Legislature shall
bo hold; and until otherwise pro
vided by law the time of tho
convening of tho first regular
session shall be at noon on the
second Tuesday in January of
each odd-pumbered year and of
tho second regular session at
noon on the second Tuesday in
January of each even-numbered
year.
"At other times when called
by the Governor the Legislature
shall convene in special session.
"Appropriations for monthly
recurring expenses and salaries
paid by the State shall be made
for a period of not more than
twelve (12) months
--vu. "At the second regular session
of each Legislature only pro-
posals to amend the Constitution
and to make appropriations to
pay monthly recurring expensos
and salaries and such other
-measures only as four-fifths
(45) of the Membership of each
House may determine shall be
. considered."
'?' Sec. 3. The Amendments pro
r posed herein if ratified by the
people shall become effective
January First. A. D. 1950.
Sec. 4. The foregoing Constitu-
tional Amendment shaU be sub
mitted to a vote of the qualified
voters of this State at a General
Election to be held throughout
this State on the fourth Satur
day in September 1949 same be
ing September 24 1949 at which
election all ballots shall have
printed thereon:
"FOR the Constitutional
.. Amendments relative to sessions
of the Legislature and to com
pensation of its members."
"AGAINST the Constitutional
Amendments relative to sessions
- of the Legislature and to com-
pensation of its members." '
Each voter shall express his
r vote on the proposed Amend-
ment in the manner provided by

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
LEGISLATURE OF THE
STATE OF TEXAS
Section 1. That Article III of
the following:

ation for the support thereof;
provided that no tax shall be
levied in support of said districts

people residing therein."

lished as required by the Consti-
tution and laws of this state.
Sec. 4. The sum of Five Thous-
and (5000.00) Dollars or so
much thereof as may bo neces-
sary is hereby appropriated out
of any fund jn the Treasury of
tho stato not otherwise appropri-
ated to pay the expenses of such
publication and election.
